According to an article by Pat McManamon from March 30th there probably isn’t anyone on the Browns working harder this off-season than offensive lineman Jason Pinkston. Pinkston is headed into his sophomore season as an NFL player after being selected by the Browns in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He was thrust into a starting position as a rookie when Eric Steinbach went under the knife for back surgery. After an uneven but overall promising first year, how does Pinkston respond? He jumps into training with LeCharles Bentley where the workouts are hard, the training is unpredictable and comprehensive to even include diet. Is this just a guy working to get better at guard, or is Pinkston readying himself for a shot to be the Cleveland Browns’ right tackle this year?
Maybe I am thinking way too much about all this. The Browns – most notably Pat Shurmur – have stated time and again that they like Pinkston as offensive guard. The Browns’ actions backed this up when they cut ties with Eric Steinbach. That being said, the door isn’t closed on Steinbach returning for less money than he was scheduled to make. Heading into the draft where the Browns want everyone to think that right tackle is a major position of need, why would they tip their hand that a former left tackle from Pittsburgh was poised to make the move to right tackle in the off-season?
Back to LeCharles Bentley. He is the one working with Pinkston and he has also been one of the ones who has been most vocal that you can’t just take a guy like Matt Kalil and push him from the left side to the right side. According to Bentley, the switch from left side to right side takes more work than that. When Bentley says that I believe him. Why wouldn’t I? He took Alex Boone from NFL pretender to the point that the 49ers extended him until the end of the 2014 season with a deal that gave him a $1.7 million signing bonus and decent annual salaries of $540k, $950k, and $1.2 million. That’s a pretty amazing turnaround for a guy who went undrafted and struggled with alcohol abuse. Even in his truthfulness though, is Bentley tipping his hand that maybe he is grooming the next right tackle for the Browns?
Imagine what Bentley and Pinkston could be accomplishing this off-season. Maybe just maybe they are grooming the next starting right tackle for the Cleveland Browns. We are talking about a guy who is 6’4″ and over 300 pounds. We are also talking about a guy who played right tackle for a season at Pitt before playing two more seasons as a left tackle.
Cleveland media keeps sniffing around it and the Browns keep denying any switch is in the plans. As I said, heading into the draft, I can hardly blame them for denying it. Let’s just say that I wouldn’t be totally shocked if Pinkston ended up working at the right tackle spot in training camp this year. Based on the results of other guys who have bought into the LeCharles Bentley school I would be lying if I said I wasn’t kind of excited by the prospect assuming my conspiracy theory turns out to be true.

Just heard a RUMOR (key word = RUMOR) that the Rams may try to trade Steven Jackson and then trade up with the Vikings for the #3 pick. Three guesses on who they would pick? If true, kiss Trent Richardson goodbye as we already know that the Rams front office have better friends in NFL circles that do the Browns' front office. Here's a thought: Package this years pick # 22, our 2nd round pick next year, and as many 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and/or 7th round picks this year that it would take and offer them up to the Vikings for this years #3 pick. Take Richardson at #3 Your choice of Wide Receiver at #4 . . . and then tell the Rams to kiss your rosy red arse. Send a message to the fans and rest of the league that you're prepared to leave no doubt as to your intent to build a franchise. (The only reason I didn't include this years 2nd round pick is I want something to watch on Friday night) ![]() |

Two of the deepest draft-day slides in recent memory came from a pair of quarterbacks, Brady Quinn in 2007 and Aaron Rodgers in 2005, who fell all the way out of the Top 20. At least one NFL executive thinks a third quarterback could join that group on Thursday night. Texas A&M’s Ryan Tannehill will be the third quarterback off the board, after Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, but he could fall much further than most people expect, according to an executive who talked to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. “The one that’s gonna shake things up is Tannehill,” the high-ranking AFC personnel chief said. “I don’t think a lot of teams think of him as a first-round pick. I can see a situation where he doesn’t go at all in the top 20. That’s really going to change things. You got a guy who started for a year and a half. He hasn’t really been, from a team perspective, a winning quarterback. He’s got good numbers, there’s a lot of things there (to like). But they lost a lot of games in the fourth quarter. Why is he not pulling things out? Why are they losing games?” If “a lot of teams” view Tannehill as less than a first-round pick, that could be a problem for him. However, it only takes one team to pull the trigger on Tannehill high in the first round. Many observers think the Dolphins — whose offensive coordinator, Mike Sherman, was Tannehill’s college coach — will be that team that takes Tannehill at No. 8. So Miami could be the team that stops Tannehill from falling too far. The flip side of that is if the Dolphins pass on Tannehill, it could scare other teams away. That’s a scenario being floated by another NFL decision maker. “If Miami doesn’t grab him, and they got Mike Sherman there, the teams behind them are going to start questioning, what the hell are we doing taking him?” he said. “If his own coach won’t take him, why are we taking him?” Tannehill will hope that’s a question no one needs to ask on Thursday night. |

Lyman i read that rumour as well . you have to ask how much Jackson has left in his tank as the Rams have rode him hard ?. i think that Jackson wants to go play for a contender which would leave the Browns out of the equation .
if they do want to trade Jackson & move up then the Rams should have just made the trade with the Browns in the first place . i am glad they didnt as the asking price was far to high . it will be very interesting three days for sure . make it happen Heckert , this is a make or break draft for not only the Browns but also the h&h regime . dont screw this up ![]() i cant take much more of this franchise which i have loved since 68 floundering like a drunken salior . |

That is an interesting concept lyman and it has been brought up by some of us on the Rams board before. As a Rams fan, I always thought that if we were going to draft stupid, then trade Steven Jackson to someone that has a chance at the playoffs. He has given us all he can over the years with no support and deserves better. That being said, even with him coming out yesterday wanting a contract extention, I can't see the Rams parting ways. The interesting part though and to your point, is Jeff Fisher and GM Snead are starting over with the organization with a 5 year window. Now Sam Bradford is the QB and Lil Animal is the MLB and Chris Long is a DE but all others are in a word, Expendable. As I have blogged before on this site when I started a thread about not agreeing with H&H, they have signed a number of FAs in the 26 and 27 year old range, so young and future is a goal. I wouldn't be surprised by them trading Jackson on Thursday night but for the Browns to sell the future for say Richardson and Blackmon might just be a mistake also. Smoke is the theme for this week and the cloud gets heavier. Just saying.

All this "Second Guessing" must have you guys tingling all over. Don't take that the wrong way . . . as Thursday grows closer your anticipation must be driving your mock-draft analysis crazy. I don't know how you can do it. I know how I controlit . . I'm ignorant, but you guys know all the details and options, you gotta be going crazy.
With the Browns schedule what it is this year, I don't see them improving unless they take the first 12 guys in the draft; and even that might not help. H&H better earn their money this year. We may see improvement on the field, but I don't expect to see any improvement in the W-L Column till next year. I picture this year as being another year of having to take guff from my daughter-in-law's Pittsburgh family. [ chit ] They been on my case for the past 8 years. Oh how I long for those good days when Bernie was in slow motion. |

Why does everybody keep saying that I want Ryan Tannehill at #4??? I think that's a big reach....Said it over and over... I've said a million times since RG3 left the picture, TAKE Trent Richardson at #4!!!!!! How can I make that any clearer? It starting to look like we won't even get the chance judging by Rick Spielman's comments..The Vikings are obviously shopping the #3, and I have no doubt that Richardson will be the target of whoever moves up...So who knows? All I've ever said about RT is that IF Holmgren goes there, I'll understand.....But NOT at #4...This would only happen in a trade down IMO....
I don't even get the sense that the Browns are interested in Tannehill anyway.....I see Brandon Weeden as a much more realistic possibility....Hopefully at #37, and not #22....But, we'll find out the plan soon enough. For what it's worth, the Browns never do what I want them to do....At least Lerner's Browns never have. If Richardson goes at #3 as I'm starting to suspect, I wouldn't mind a slight trade down at all....If they stay put, I suspect they'll take Blackmon....I'll be shocked if they take a defensive player....Or the OT. As Heckert said, "we need guys that can score touchdowns.." |

DAWG. Tannehill isn't the QB the Browns need anyway. There are as many as 4 or 5 QBs that have more experience + the size and strenght that he does. I know there is a lot of smoke right now especially around the Vikings at #3 and truly Trent Richardson might be the cause but then take Justin Blackmon at #4, SO WHAT. Need is need and WR is just as important to the Browns as is RB or QB or RT. Best possible is the way to go. I see the smoke about the Rams taking DT Cox, really, with all the needs they have on offense, another lineman? They don't even need Matt Kalil, he is a left tackle and Safford is the Rams LT, he could move back to RT but really, a special offensive player is what we both need. Not a DT OR RT. Just saying.

Say Guys ~
I've said this before, you guys certainly have more detailed knowledge than I do... I like to look at the grander picture. The Browns are officially drafting in the fourth slot this year.. I'm not a big follower of the who's who of college players, so I leave that discussion for you guys. I only know what I hear on WKNR. The way I see this is . . . we draft #4 this year -AND- we have the wonderful honor of falling prey to the NFL Schedule Model . . which just happens to have us playing a much more difficult schedule than last year. Last year we only won what? four games, right? What's our chances for winning more than four games this year with a tougher schedule? Could we be in the same position in next year's draft again? Could we be struggling with McCoy and company and next year getting a quarterback next year instead? Could we be positioning ourselves for two banner drafts ? Back-to-Back?? Could H&H be THAT Smart? Just wondering out loud . . . |

Yet another lawsuit has been filed on behalf of multiple former players seeking compensation for concussions. News of the new action comes on the eve of a case-management conference in Philadelphia, during which Judge Anita Brody is expected to set various timetables and guidelines for the litigation of many of the pending claims. The newest claim includes two former No. 1 overall picks of the Cleveland Browns: Tim Couch (pictured) and Courtney Brown. Other plaintiffs include recognizable names like Fred Taylor, Kevin Bentley, Ladell Betts, Gilbert Brown, Ken Dilger, Olandis Gary, Nick Greisen, Willie Middlebrooks, Will Poole, Ike Reese, Joel Smeenge, John Welbourn, Roy L. Williams (the man after whom the horse-collar rule was named), Marcel Shipp, Adewale Ogunleye, and Charlie Frye. The 126-page complaint focuses on the NFL’s formation in 1994 of a committee that purported to research the long-term effects of head injuries and concussions, and “to ameliorate the occurrence/severity of head injuries/concussions during game and practice play in an effort to educate and protect NFL players.” The complain alleges that the NFL negligently created and administered the Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Committee, and that the MTBI Committee was simply a device for claiming that there were no risks associated with concussions. The complaint, filed in federal court in Philadelphia by the Podhurst Orseck firm in Miami, also asserts a class action that seeks “medical monitoring” of players who suffered concussions but who possibly may not currently be experiencing health consequences. |

The Browns will draft a QB this year . it just wont be on Thursday night .look for one late Fri Night
the QB class next year looks promising or so the so called experts seem to think with Barkley being the headliner .i honestly hope that we are in no postion to draft one as that would mean another 4 win season . i am sick & tired of 4 win seasons . can i at least get a 6- 8 this year .if McCoy comes alive this year it wont matter ..will it TD

Blackmon would come into play then IMHO . Get your popcorn reday for Thursday night . i will miss Fri nights draft as the weather looks good for slinging Ohio dirt

Former Browns standout Brian Brennan will receive the Dino Lucarelli Lifetime Achievement Award on Tuesday, May 8, when the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation holds its 24th annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet at LaCentre Conference and Banquet Facility in Westlake. Brennan was a fourth-round draft pick in 1984. The wide receiver played nine seasons in the NFL and was with the Browns from 1984 to '91. He is now an executive for KeyBank and was inducted into the Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. |

Just for the record guys, I really don't want to see the Browns reach on anybody....If Tannehill slides to #22 and H&H feel comfortable taking him there, then great. Put it this way, I won't lose sleep if we don't end up with Ryan Tannehill....
I wouldn't personally take him at #4, nor anywhere in the top 15....After that, who knows, but I don't want to see the Browns trade up for him... |

Dawg Pound Lounge ,April 24, 2012 10:38 pm
correction: I should have said I don't want to see the Browns trade up earlier than the #22 pick for Tannehill.....If he's still on the board late in the round though, and we've already got a stud RB and WR at picks #4 and #22, then I might be very tempted to move at that point....
