2009 Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper Sucks Thread

Eight of the nine have been on the field and the other is a 3rd round pick. I just can't see how you think a 7th round LB would have a better chance at making the 53 than a 7th round TE.

numbers Beach, more spots open at the LB position. You carry 3-4 TE and 8 LB. Then throw in the fact that Morty Ivy and Stephenson Sylvester are not locks. Heath Miller and Leonard Pope are locks IMHO and that takes away 2 of the 3-4 spots. So you have 6 guys vying for 1-2 spots as opposed to 5 guys vying for 3 spots. Yeah there are also undrafteds in the mix and futures contracts guys, just talking about draft picks here, to clarify.

Sure the Coaches like Carter and Sylvester, but a kid like Shawn Loisseau may have come in and beat one of these guys out. I cannot see David Paulson beating out DJ Johnson or Weslye Saunders. IF Pittsburgh had drafted a fast TE to catch passes like James Hanna, Ladarius Green, or Derek Carrier, I could buy it. But Paulson is not a great blocker and is not exceptionally fast. The Ravens and Patriots set the bar with fast TE's, the Steelers passed on the Hybrid TE's in this draft. I think OLB for depth would have been better planning, even bb's guy Loisseau is an ILB. Woodley and Harrison we need for 16 games, even Teblow picked the Steelers apart without that Tandem.

Yeah I don't agree with that but we don't have to agree on everything. Spence is indeed a lock by virture of his draft position and Sylvester is a special teams leader and #1 backup at ILB. He's a lock. That leaves one spot and he has two guys who have been on the field for the Steelers ahead of him.

Saying a 7th round LB could beat out both Ivy and Carter is a bigger stretch in my opinion than saying Paulson has to beat out 4 guys that have never stepped foot on an NFL field.

And as bad as Bruce was they still didn't cut him. They aren't cutting a 3rd round pick. 

I hope the Steelers use the tightends this year.  Sounded like Hailey was excited about working with Miller.

NFLDraftScout has their first 2013 NFL Draft prospect list out. Too QB-heavy for my liking, but what did I say about Eric Reid? Draft Scout has him 10th overall. I'm telling you he'll run circles around Mark Barron in the NFL. Screw the pundits, analysists, whatever. Barron was a reach and anyone who follows football decently well and has half a brain knows it, and that stops Tampa Bay from having a great draft. How will he fare against Drew Brees, Matt Ryan and his receivers, and possibly Cam Newton? I'll tell you - he'll be torched so often he won't know what to do with himself, especially at first. It'll prove to be one of this year's flops.

Rarebreed:  Peter Konz Wisconsin or Donta' Hightower Alabama.

demolisher43: Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia and Mark Barron, S, Alabama

Steelers=sb: Cordy Glenn, G Georgia and Dont'a Hightower, LB Alabama 

nybites:  Nick Perry, OLB, USC,  Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi State.

I liked FLetcher Cox all along, his stock went through the roof. I could have taken Hightower but I went Perry to be different. The biggest reach was Brandon Washington. Demo is right and time will tell, but Mark Baron was the tallest midget in the carnival, he went top ten. He is nowhere near as explosive as Earl Thomas, Eric Berry, etc..,  The reps on the bench really hurt Konz.  Both Poe and Barron were over-drafted, boom or bust on Poe, and again the best Safety in this class would not even go in round one two years ago. Harrison Smith, another reach, there were better players available but the safety class mucked soose.


2013 there will be at least 5 DB's in round one, holpefully a good player will be there in the 30's for us.

BTW -- That Pittsburgh Dad actor grew up in Greensburg (my hometown) and, until a few months ago, worked at the same restaurant out here in LA as my brother-in-law and a few friends.  Small world.  (This has been another installment of Trivia That Interests No One But Hoya.)

I think everyone of us would have picked DeCastro if we thought the Steelers had achance to get him (IMO).

I changed my Konz pick after I herd he missed games or never completed the season ( I cant remember which ) every year in college due to injuries.

NFL.com gave the Chiefs an A but said Poe was a very questionable pick. Contradiction?

Also we might have to change that LB prediction as I'm sure at least one of Matt Roth or Brandon Johnson will get signed.
