April 21, 2012 1:23 pm

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Psalm 46:1

The cross I wear around my neck is not there for show, nor is it the object of my worship. I would not be lost without it, though I do like it. I do not believe it has some mystical power, nor does it protect me. The cross that I wear reminds me of the great love that God has for me. Christ's gift of eternal life is made real to me each time I look down at the cross or feel it lightly resting on my chest. In difficult times, I look at the cross and feel warmth and comfort. From its gentle reminder I draw strength when I am weary, refuge when I need to rest. Whether I wear my cross or not, God is with me, but sometimes it is nice to have a small reminder.

I run to You when I need rest, Lord. You take me in Your arms and protect me from the pressures of the day. In every time of trial, You are the source of my help. Thank You. Amen.

Praise:  Through the power of prayer the father of a lady in our Sunday school class was healed of cancer through chemo and radiation and was saved from extensive surgery.  I praise this development and pray that his health continues.

Prayer:  Health amd happiness to all those that are close to us and espeically the health needs that have been brought up in this thread, Sis's mom, Paula and others.  I am still praying for wisdom and hoping that one day some of it sticks.  I am thankful for this tread and for the inspiration it produces.

Amen

Here is a little bonus post I ran into this weekend and thought it was a great way to view things:

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day a man hopped into a taxi and it took off for the airport.  They were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of them.  The taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded and missed the other car by inches!  The taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy very warm and friendly.

The passenger asked:  “Why did you just do that?  This guy almost wrecked your car and sent us to the hospital!”  This is when the taxi driver explained “The Law of the Garbage Truck”.

Many people are like garbage trucks they run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger and full of disappointment.  As the garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you.  Don’t take it personally.  Just smile, wave, wish them well and move on.  Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.  Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so…Love the people who treat you right and pray for the ones that don’t.

I haven't posted in the past couple weeks, but it's great reading the praises, and thank you to everyone for posting your prayer requests - we know that God answers them!

Praying for each of you and your requests, and for this thread.

"Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored."
2 Thessalonians 3:1

Prayer is vital for the success of the preaching of the word of God.  It creates an atmosphere favorable for the word to accomplish its purpose.  God's word will not return void but will accomplish that purpose for which it was sent out.  We participate in that process by praying for those with whom we will share the gospel and connecting with people whose paths we cross in a positive way so that sharing our good news can be done with people who see God's love in us.

Dear Lord God, help us to prepare the ground with our prayers so Your word will take root in people's hearts and produce a great harvest. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Please remember that the National Day of Prayer is May 3.  Make plans to fit prayer time into that day as well as praying up to that day.

Be God's!

Hop, WT, Jack, Gary, Tony, and all who come here with encouragement and with needs,

Thanks so much for your posts!  WT, love the "garbage truck" analogy--I've had some bosses who make it a challenge to pray for but like you say, we pray for all, including those who are at times hard to love.  We were hard to love at some point in our lives as well yet God didn't give up on us; spread that love to others!  Hop, congratulations on your daughter being accepted at college; WT, great news about the successful healing.  I continue to life all requests in prayer.

We saw the vascular surgeon yesterday.  He's working on a way to have a team of doctors solve Mom's bypass problems--possibly an angioplasty and stint in her femeral artery, a 3 hour surgery on the left leg but not cutting cutting the entire length of the leg, and a second surgery on the other leg at a different time.  This is being done to reduce the number of incisions and risk of infection, and to reduce the amount of time she has to spend lying on the table since she has six things wrong with her back and her knees and cannot lie flat for any length of time.  She would be hospitalized twice for the surgereis (if she decides to consent and if the doctors think the risk is worth it).  We are weighing quality of life v quantity of life decisions.  She is finally up and around and driving after 14 months of not being able to walk or take care of herself and we would hate to go backwards with more surgeries is the improvement resulting from the procedures would be minimal.  We are waiting for the surgical team to call so we can discuss and decide.  We will back Mom in whatever she decides.  She still has skin cancer surgeries to go, too, and we want to limiit what she has to go through to heal compared to the risks of the procedures.

God's blessings to you all!

Prayers

April 24, 2012 11:37 pm

Hey everyone, I have a prayer request.  Someone I love very much who is very dear to me is battling a number of health issues.  I'm not close enough to her (in distance) right now to be able to talk to her daily, but as often as possible.  She's only 28 years old, and part of the problem is her having dealt with diabetes since she was a baby.  That is making the rest even harder on her body.  She is dealing with liver trouble and receiving treatments for that, while having to take a lot of medication.  She is in and out of the hospital constantly.  The doctors say it's wearing on her kidneys (with the help of the diabetes) and could end up needing transplants if the medicine and treatments don't work.  She is very weak, and her body is tired.  Depression is getting to her, but she does manage some light-heartedness.  She "crashes" often, when her blood sugar bottoms out, and that too puts her in the hospital, on top of the liver trouble.

My main concern (on top of her health even) is that I can't know for sure, but I am pretty sure that she isn't saved.  Since I talked to her this morning and found out how much worse things have gotten for her, that is weighing heavily on my heart.  I don't want to imagine something happening to her and her being lost.  We've talked about God.  At one point (probably 2 years ago) she did mention that she wanted to go to church, because she felt like something was missing in her life.  That was a good sign.  However, nothing has come of that (especially with her health.)  I mention that I'm praying for her, and that I can't imagine dealing with anything that's gone on in my life without knowing Jesus.  I try not to get preachy (or say too much) because she gets uncomfortable.

Along with her health, please pray that she realizes she needs God and accepts Jesus Christ into her heart.  I thank you more than you know for doing so.

Have a blessed night and day tomorrow.  You are all in my prayers.

Prayers

April 25, 2012 3:23 pm

Praise:  That I have salvation and what a wonderful gift from the heavenly father that is.

Prayer:  I pray for all those on this thread and lift their requests up to God.  Please be with those that are ill, those that are unsaved and give wisdom and guidence to those of us who serve you.  Thank you for all your wonderful gifts to us and for being an awesome God who loves and cares for us.

Amen

In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7

Bottom Line:  Don't worry about anything, pray about everything and God will bring you peace.
