So, you already know this, but Charles Barkley likes to say stuff. Stuff he believes, but stuff that certainly grabs attention. He says what he really thinks and sometimes, that's part of the problem.

On Jim Rome's radio show Wednesday, Barkley was talking about NBA fans and how some go a bit too far in their support. And he might've gone a bit too far himself. He was on for 35 straight minutes, so as you might imagine, give Barkley that long to talk and he's bound to say something.

"Fans man. They love their team and their player. They don't want to hear any criticisms. They just want you to be 100 percent for their team period," Barkley said. "I think it's only a small faction. I think 80 percent are great. Twenty percent, I wish you could take them out back and just shoot them."

Rome jumped in there and says, "Well, maybe not shoot them, Chuck."  But Barkley doubled down.

"No, I meant that Jim," he said. Eighty percent of the fans are fantastic. But 20 percent of them are so mean-spirited and say the most nasty things to you, because they know you can't grab them."

Yikes. Barkley's not wrong. Some fans are crazy. Check any comments section, any radio call-in show, any team forum and you'll see the fringe fans that take their anonimity to the farthest reaches they can. Barkley speaks his mind about your team, tells it like it is and doesn't hold back. He's been especially critical of the Oklahoma City Thunder of late, saying he doesn't think they're a top four team and not a true contender. That's the type of stuff that fires up fanbases to the point of saying regrettable things.

And fires up Sir Charles to the same point as well too.

Barkley: 20 percent of NBA fans should be shot

Well Mr. Barkley, that's a 2 sided Sword buddy!  I agree that 20% of fans need to calm down and relax on the ridiculous things they say...and quite possibly be put out of OUR misery. lol.  But on the flip side I STRONGLY believe many media, journalist and TV hosts should also be SHOT!  Let's say around....ohhh I don't know...20%.  With Charles Barkley at the top of the list.

In effect Charles is actually quite a hypocrite because he says the most notrocious (yes it's a word-it's a hybrid of atrocious and notorious) things just to get a reaction.  Like telling people that Kobe wasn't an MVP in 08' (the year he won it) then flip flopping at the end of the year and said Kobe was top 5?  WTH?  Saying the Grizzlies would beat the Spurs?  LOL.  Charles Barkley is known for speaking first and thinking second.  He's a black Skip Bayless.  So.."Sir" Charles...let's just take you out back before it's too late...(sound of shotgun loaded and ready) After you....SIR!

Of course, Barkley might know a thing or two about teams that aren't good enough to win a championship since he never won one. Heck, Philadelphia won an NBA title two years before drafting him and then never sniffed another until he was long gone. Keep preaching Barkley. No one better to know about losing than you.

Barkley was talking about NBA fans . And he might've gone a bit too far himself.

Barkley's not wrong.

I don't understantd the point of this article.

Was it intended to be a neutral, fact-describing news report. If so, what is the point (1) of all the speculation whether its a problem or whether Barkley went too far and (2) of the conclusion that Barkley is right?

Or was this an opinion piece? If so, what is the thesis? Why is it a problem that Barkley goes too far and he is right to do so?

Chuck is always good for telling it like it is.  Some fans get so worked up that they get their posts deleted on this site.  It amazes me you can get that angry at someone you dont know over someone you dont know!  Fans act like they are big and bad when at the games but would tiptoe around like a field mouse if they were to meet the player in an alley.  My advise would be to not say anything if you dont have anything nice to say.

Barkley: 20 percent of NBA fans should be shot

Very understandable, at the end of the day this is a game.  Everyone from Kobe Bryant to Brian Scalebrine have families and are human beings that have everyday problems outside of the microscope that is the media to deal with.  The most recent, bashing of Dwayne Wade on his hit on Bryant.  I've even read some Lakers fans saying that his career should end this Sunday.  The racism regarding Lin is another benchmark regarding this subject.  The sad thing is, I think it's more than 20% now.

All you have to do is read threads here on this site to see what Charles is talking about. If someone says something that certain participants disagree with then the writer is called a moron or idiot. Fans need to keep it respectful. Why in the world would anyone want to discuss a topic with people that agree with each other all the time? How boring! Different opinions make for interesting discussion.
