LeBron says he'll guard Lin some Thursday

Thursday could be the ultimate test for Jeremy Lin. Not because his Knicks will be taking on Miami Heat. But individually, because LeBron James, one of the best on-ball defenders in the game, says he'll likely guard Lin some.

"I know I'm going to end up guarding Lin at some point," LeBron told reporters Wednesday.

LeBron, as I'm sure you recall, switched to guard Derrick Rose for lage parts of the Eastern Conference Finals and essentially locked down the MVP. And while Jeremy Lin has had quite the start to his time in New York, he's not Derrick Rose.

And if LeBron's not guarding Lin, it will likely be Dwyane Wade. You know, just another elite defender. The Heat are one of the best teams in the league at creating turnovers and guess what, Jeremy Lin turns it over a lot. If there was ever a measuring bar to really see where Linsanity is at, Thursday's game against the Heat will be it.

LeBron also talked about Linsanity in general, saying “I never watch Harvard basketball. I never watch Harvard.’’ LeBron did tell reporters that he watched Lin against John Wall in the 2010 Summer League though. He's one of many too as that YouTube highlight video has some 1.2 million views. LeBron said he thinks people should celebrate the fact Lin is a good player and not just stick on him being Asian-American.

“I think it’s taken away from it, obviously,” he said.

LeBron on Lin being on a second straight week of Sports Illustrated: "Make sure he doesn’t take that for granted and get those covers and frame them and put them in his house.” LeBron would know. He's been on many an SI cover, starting in high school.

Worlds of hype will collide in South Beach Thursday with Linsanity meeting the Heat. It'll be a challenge for the Knicks, as they're still meshing since adding Carmelo Anthony along with the fact the Heat are really darn good. And for Lin, he's going to have to deal with looking across at King James defending him, which I'm sure is something he wasn't expecting to happen this season.

And when they meet later in the playoffs...

...Lin plays better, and the Knicks win one, maybe two, games at home.  This is the Heat's year, as much as I wish it wasn't.  Few people think less of LeBron than I do, but the man is head and shoulders the best player in the game, and he finally seems pissed enough to maybe play tough enough to win the whole thing.  That said, it's a shame he didn't have the gonads to do it in New York instead of joining up with Wade to play for one of the least deserving fan bases in sports.

I like Jeremy Lin and I can't stand the Heat, but

here's what's gonna happen tonight:  LeBron and Wade are going to do to Lin what Jordan and Pippen did to Toni Kukoc the first time the Bull's played the Wonder-European--pull out all the stops to attempt to embarrass him on both ends of the court.  They'll do that because they're two of the top players in the league and they're tired of hearing about this kid.  Worst case scenario for the Knicks is that Lin turns it over a dozen or more times and gets taken out of the game in the third quarter to avoid further humiliation in a blow-out loss.  Best case scenario is Lin gives up the ball to his own teammates early and often, gets it back in position to make a pass or get a decent shot, and generally plays respectably in a more reasonable, say, 15 to 18 pt loss.  Either way, I think Lin has the chops to take a licking and come back stronger next time--I don't think this kid's spirit is going to be crushed.

I like Lin but he is going to get his lunch handed to him tonite.  Not just because of Lebron, but the type of attacking defense the Heat play.  Lebron is a big obstacle to throw over or around and Wade will be waiting to intercept any errant or soft pass.  Lin is going to have to keep his dribble and his teammates are going to have to come to meet the ball.  This is one of the best tests Lin is going to have all season.  I expect alot of turnovers from Lin.  Just the result of playing against the Heat.

If anything, everybody will be focused in Lin.  Which will give opportunity for the other players to shine and rise to the occasion.  Lin  may not have his best game, but I think he will be a factor if they do win.  This will be a tough match up for the Knicks.  The Heat have too many good weapons on both sides of the ball.

How come nobody acknowledges DWade's defense?

Anyone who thinks Lebron can't guard Lin seriously needs to get their head checked.

I love Lin, but you gotta admit that LeBron, DRose and DWade are just above and beyond Lin as of today.  who knows what the future will bring?  but for now, there's no question that the thought of LeBron guarding Lin is kinda scary.

I just hope that there's enough distraction out there for the Heat (melo, stat, JR, etc.) so that someone will capitalize on the Heat focusing so much on Lin... although unlikely...

LeBron says he'll guard Lin some Thursday

I can see it now... LeBron guards Lin for the first three quarters, get frustrated and "gives up" in the fourth quarter, leading to a NY win...
Typical ignorant statement.  Lebron has done pretty well against the most prominent scorers in the NBA.

LeBron will get a taste of Linsanity tomorrow night and rue the day that he crossed Lin. Lin is going to drop 35+ with 15 assists similar to the beating he handed out to Kobe and the Lakers. LeBron has no game compared to Lin and you know it. Lin will run circles around LeBron and sky above the rim every trip down the floor. LeBron should learn to shut his mouth and act like a pro and not provide Lin the incentive to go wild and take over.

Not trying to take anything away from Lin, as he has been a great story thus far.  With that being said, this has to be the most moronic statement I've read in quite sometime.  Ask Derrick Rose how he felt about having to be guarded by Lebron in the conference finals.  Jeremy Lin is good, but he certainly is no Derrick Rose.

I am hoping this is sarcasm. It is possible, but not very likely, that Lin will score 35+ points and have 15 assists. He has not done it yet and will be facing some pretty good defenders, Think you should hope for more of a 20 point - 10 assist game with 5 or less turnovers. If he could do that, he would have had a very good game. As far as your comment about Lebron not hving any game compared to Lin, what a joke. You would have to be the biggest homer in the world to believe that. Lin is a great story and has been playing very well, but he is not among the top players in the NBA.

Most pro athletes will do interviews - of course most pro athletes won't have everything they say turned against them. So what did Lebron say bad about Lin? That he nevers watches Harvard basketball. I think most would be able to say that. That people should celebrate that Lin is a good basketball player and not just stick on him being Asian-American. How dare Lebron say that Lin is a good basketball player. You are trying to make something out of nothing.

Lin is the best thing to happen to the Knicks in a long time but you're a little over the top with your predictions about what Lin is going to do against James and the Heat. I'll be happy if the Knicks play hard and keep the game under double digits. After the All star break is when we can expect the team to really get it together.

LeBron says he'll guard Lin some Thursday

You should remember that Kobe did drop 34 on the Knicks that game and Kobe never guarded Lin, also the Lakers always had a problem guarding any Pick and Roll Situation and point guards who have decent speed or can execute the Pick and Roll. The Lakers point guards are also old. The Heat are different they can have 3-4 guys who can effectively defend without losing on speed or be at an disadvantage in the Pick and Roll

LeBron says he'll guard Lin some Thursday

Just as Lebron James begins to make me think he has a head on his shoulders with his remark about it is a precedent for Asian players as those of my memory, the statue that was Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian are both anomalies size-wise for Asian culture so a point guard is a significant thing even if he came from Harvard and not China.

It does have historical importance. But the astonishing numbers he has put up going from no time to nearly all game and putting up All-NBA numbers minus Carmelo Anthony. If it was a one or two game scoring outburst that happens from guys all the time but it's undeniable #1 scoring, top 5 passing numbers, decent steals, BAD turnovers. He does so much that he makes up for them. However, thats encouraging to me. His scoring, vision, maturity, poise and mental fortitude to play a whole game no one couldve expected but after this many games, he has proven thats real. Turnovers are a rookie, essentially Lin is, staple and normally peak then. He was thrust into a D'antonio offense. If a PG doesn't have high turnover amounts, he isn't playing them right style. Those will get down and 9 won't be seen again. In Mark's system and maybe elsewhere, he seems to be a legit starting #1 who should atleast give you 18-8 if he doesn't keep this up which he appears possible of doing.
