LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle sprain) to miss time

Portland Trail Blazers All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge suffered a left ankle sprain during the first quarter of a Tuesday night loss to the Washington Wizards at the Rose Garden and will miss an undetermined amount of time.

The team announced that X-rays of the ankle were negative but that he will not travel with the team to Oakland for its Wednesday night game against the Golden State Warriors. His availability after that is not known. Blazers coach Nate McMillan said only that Aldridge told him at halftime of the game that the ankle was "pretty sore."

Aldridge was injured less than two minutes into the game when he came down on the foot of Wizards forward Trevor Booker after attempting a jump shot. Aldridge immediately went to the court in pain and was able to walk off the court under his own power. Without their No. 1 scorer and captain, the Blazers went on to lose to the Wizards, 124-109.

Aldridge, 26, was named to his first All-Star game last week and is in the midst of a career year. He is averaging 23.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game this season and had appeared in every game for Portland this season. He has missed just six games due to injury since the beginning of the 2008-2009 season.

The timing of the injury couldn't be worse for Portland. The Blazers have lost four of their last five games and are in the midst of a back-to-back-to-back against the Wizards, Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers. Portland will also face the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs in advance of the All-Star break next week.

Here's a video replay of the injury.

LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle sprain) to miss time

concur that the defensive play that caused Aldridge to sprain his ankle was a dirty play- even if not done intentionally. Supposedly, the ref's were supposed to be watching out for this type of play so as to eliminate this type of injury. Last night they weren't watching closely enough. But LeMarcus wasn't leaning in or moving forward, and Trevor Booker took a long step toward LMA and put his foot directly where the player landed. If they NBA is really going to try to eliminate that type of play they should penalize it heavily. Booker should be suspended for a couple games without pay. That one play could be the difference between whether the Blazers make the playoffs or not.

LOL.......Really?

Maybe you should be on the NBA's competition and rules committee......  Laughable!

LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle sprain) to miss time

Very bad timing. Nothing dirty about it. This type of thing happens a lot in basketball. The bad thing is how average the Blazers look without LA. Also, seems like the lack of effort and no heart came through even more. Most teams would be inspired after losing their best player and put up more of an effort, not this group.

In my opinion its time to blow the mess up and start from scracth building around LA, Batum (seems to be pullinghis head out) and maybe Mathews if he pulls his heaad out. I would also keep Camby for a reasonable amount if they can until they find a center. Crawford is is too streaky and Felton is playing the worst of any point guard in the league at the moment.

I would like to see The younger guards,Nolan and Williams get some play time so we can see if they are worth keeping as well even if its in a back up role.

Nate's days are numbered. I don't think he is a bad coach but he has lost the team or his message isn't getting throughh to them. As soon as a GM is hired at the end of the season I'm sure he will want his own coach.

LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle sprain) to miss time

I have a problem with how Trevor Booker stepped under him that way.  I don't think he did it on purpose but one of the worst things for a good player is to go up against a bad player who doesn't have the proper fundamentals to simply go up and down in a straight line when trying to block a shot.  Tervor Booker was just sloppy, and caused Aldridge to get hurt because of it.  This should have been avoided.

LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle sprain) to miss time

This is a very unfortunate event to transpire, because LaMarcus Aldridge is without a doubt the Blazers' most consistent player and they drive off of him. Now the players will definitely have to step up since this team is heading on a long road trip. I hope his ankle gets better day to day, I voted LMA like 30 times for ASG, because he's an unbelievable player and in my eyes he's easily a top 3 PF in the NBA.

LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle sprain) to miss time

This is beginning to look more and more like a typical Blazer's season.  Lots of promise at first followed by lots of injuries and losses.  This team will be lucky to make the playoffs this year if they don't turn things around soon.  So far this season Marcus Camby has lost significant time and now Aldridge.  They are simply not deep enough in the front court to be w/o either of these guys and expect to win.
