If there was a tipping point for when the compacted schedule would really start to take a significant toll on the league through injury, you have to wonder if it was Monday night. Here's a rundown of the M*A*S*H* unit the league turned into Monday night in a torrent of injuries.

  • The Hornets announced Jason Smith is out one week with a concussion he sustained Saturday against the  Pistons.
  • Elton Brand was held out of the Sixers' game against the Lakers with a thumb injury.

That's one night of action and we haven't even gotten the random trickle-down injuries from the late games yet. Usually we'd be about a week away from the All-Star Game but since we haven't actually gotten through that many games due to the late start following the lockout, there's another three weeks before the All-Star break provides some relief. Vince Carter said last week that this year was about survival and you can tell how much that has an impact on teams' approaches. It's just a rough year for all teams in terms of managing wear and tear with this schedule, and Monday night was one in which a lot of teams lost that battle.

I dunno about you guys but I just cashed in a bunch of prop bets against Welker, Gronkowski, and Hernandez because I study. Now I'm keepin a careful eye on the guys in the NBA, especially the older set that haven't been injurred, or on the injurred list as they should be wearing down, but you gotta pick up on who gets injured and get your picks in fast as the lottery guys are apt to pull games as the bettors max out, or they pick up on the injury. Don't bet the farm though, as I bet against NY Knicks cuz of Amare being out amongst others and it worked out For them, and they won going away.

Hopefully its not serious. Maybe he might miss a few weeks and then return. If its career ending, then that's a big issue. Chauncey is bold and strong and he'll get through it. I don't think this ends the clippers hopes of making the playoffs this year. They're a much improved team from last year and I believe in them, with or without Billups.

i guess you cant quote individuals when clicking (reply to comment) on here -- however, anyone that says nba players arent tough for being unable to play through sprained ankles/strained groins... well, you're just an idiot.
