Durant on Griffin's dunk: 'It was a layup'

Pretty much everyone freaked over Griffin's dunk over Perkins. Kevin Durant? Not so much. (Getty Images)

Did you see Blake Griffin's dunk on Kendrick Perkins? Of course you did. And you probably did one of a few things. You said, "OHHHHH!!!!" you shook your head or you passed out in terror.

It was an amazing play.

But one guy wasn't impressed and he has a better look than any of us.

"I have no appreciation for it at all," Thunder star Kevin Durant told reporters Wednesday, via the Oklahoman.

You shouldn't be surprised by that though. Durant's also a guy that when asked if he was happy for Dirk Nowitzki to get to the NBA Finals last year, he said, "I'm not happy for him at all." Durant isn't going to play the game where he says all the right things just to be nice. He didn't like Griffin cramming on his guy Perk and he didn't like all the attention it got either.

"It was a layup, I think," Durant said. "He threw the ball in and got fouled and made a free throw. So it’s three points at the end of the day."

It was in fact a dunk, by definition, but that's not the point. Durant came away unimpressed by the Blake Show's poster of his teammate. But is that the problem? Because it happened to Durant's teammate?

"If it wasn't against us, maybe I would have said it was a good play," he said.

I love Durant but that could've been over my grandmother and I would say it was a good play. But I understand that Durant doesn't want to wave the pom-pons for Griffin. That's what being a good teammate is. He's not going to gush about something that likely embarrassed his boy Perk.

But it definitely wasn't a layup. If that's the case, so was Durant's nasty poster of Brendan Haywood in the Western Conference Finals. I don't want to live in a world where those aren't dunks.

Durant on Griffin's dunk: 'It was a layup'

This dude is way overrated and is all hype.

You forgot a whiner and a flopper who got beat up with an ugly stick growing up. Dude is a cross between Alfred E. Newman and a chimp.

Durant on Griffin's dunk: 'It was a layup'

Wow, talk about a bitter Wizards fan.  22/12 as a rookie is not "over inflated hype".  It's production.  Since he also consistently outplays the best PF in the league head-to-head, you might want to ask for a reality check.

Durant on Griffin's dunk: 'It was a layup'

First of all that was a foul on Griffin. Why it wasn't called is beyond me. He used his off hand to basically ward off and elevate himself over Perkins which is a foul. This dude is way overrated and is all hype. Just like last years slam dunk contest. He hung on the rim and pulled himself over the front of that little car. Big deal. That freak from the Wiz, McGee, what he did was insane. When on one leap dunked 2 balls thru two different hoops and when he dunked in one leap 3balls thru the same hoop is sick. He was robbed cuz of this over inflated hype named Blake Griffin.

Durant on Griffin's dunk: 'It was a layup'

Call it what you wanna call it... Dunk, Throw down, FG, 2 points, and 1, etc.  Whatever....  He jumped extremely high and did something absolutely bonkers, mind blowing, spectacular, crazy.  It definetly wasn't a lay up, oh no, it wasn't that at all.  My grammar school basketball coach said that when you shoot a lay up its like tossing a loaf of bread to the basket.  It looked like Blake was driving a sledgehammer through the rim...!! I enjoyed it....!!   I just hope that Amare could spike it like that one day......... NOT!!   Please lets get rid of Amare for something decent... we owe him tooooo much money...!!!

bluegray213:
Flat out garbage on the defensive end.
That's odd, because in his matchups against the best offensive power forwards he's held Aldridge, Gasol, Bosh, Boozer, and Love below their averages this year.  Paul Millsap has averaged exactly the same against Griffin as he has the rest of the league.  So, in head-to-head matchups he consistently holds his opponents below their averages.  Most people would call that at least average to above average.

"Flat out garbage" is obviously wrong and sounds like a bad case of bias.

Durant on Griffin's dunk: 'It was a layup'

To the dude on the "I want to have Micheal Jordan's baby and Blake Griffin sucks" tirade.  Get a grip.  And try to stay on topic.  When I saw the still shot I wasn't overly impressed.  When I saw the film I was.  I can't think of another guy who could muscle through a Kendrick Perkins body block and still get that home.

Dunk or not, incredibly athletic play.

The next time Perkins goes up against Griffin, he better not him on his ass when he flies to the hoop.

It was a foul on BG. The vid, the poster pic, all of it shows BG's foul. Perkins went straight up and Griffen jumped into him while grabbing his shoulder.
And this is why I hate the charge circle.
