Sure, Derrick Rose would like to play with Dwight Howard. Whatever. (Getty Images)

Derrick Rose never really tried too hard to recruit Dwight Howard or Dwyane Wade in 2010. He wasn't out front lobbying to add Carmelo Anthony last year. And now that Dwight Howard is saying he wouldn't oppose going to Chicago (but it's not his favorite, is the unsaid component), Rose is playing it the same way as he has in the past.

Basically, "Uh, sure, I guess."

From CSN Chicago:
“Me and Dwight definitely have a relationship, especially because of adidas. I know our market and the city speaks for itself, if someone was interested to come to the Chicago Bulls,” Rose said of the Magic’s All-Star center. “Dwight, he’s a great player. Who wouldn’t want to play with him, but you never know what’s going to happen.”
via Rose on possibility of playing with Dwight Howard.

As always, Rose is pretty much like "eh, whatever." Rose wants good teammates, but his attitude publicly has always been that he'll go out there and focus on what he does and win with his guys.

It begs the question if he'd be like this if he had been drafted elsewhere. If he hadn't landed on a Bulls team that if not phenomenal, did have a playoff core with Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, and Joakim Noah before adding Carlos Boozer and the current roster, would he still be so supportive of teammates and would he still avoid clamoring for help like every other star seems to? If Derrick Rose were in Charlotte, would he sill have his head down, going into the lane and playing at such a high level? Or has his support altered his approach and kept him from complaining about help like every other All-Star does if they can't lift their team up on their own?

It's one of the things that makes Rose an admirable star. Whether it's because of how things worked out or not, he doesn't complain. He supports his guys. He thinks his players can win. Dwight Howard is criticizing his teammates and saying they should not be affected by him talking about how great it would be to play with any other contender. Rose has backed his guys and when the Bulls have struggled, he's put it on himself to be better.

It's a shame for the small markets. Not only do the big markets get the best players, but they get the kind of guys the small markets need, while the small markets wind up with guys constantly looking for help and brighter lights.

If the Bulls acquire Dwight Howard, they'll be the favorite to win the title (and they're pretty close to that now). It'll be a phenomenal combination of talent, two of the three best players in the league. But if not, there will be no grousing from Rose. That's just not who he is.

Rose apathetic on Howard coming to Bulls

Being good at basketball involves a lot more than shooting percentages and scoring averages. In fact, no team shoots 75% from the field where another shoots 25%. Every team is between a few points in the 40's. It's the rest of the game, the movement, spacing, attitude, execution and timing that make up those percentage points that seperate winning and losing for a  player.  Noah does a lot of those things, so does Luol Deng. So does Brewer.   I mention those guys because that's apparently who's been discussed in a possible trade for Howard. If I were the Bulls I would do well to measure those intangibles against the package Dwight brings, which is an excellent package too. JVia trade or free agency a team needs the cap space to sign a star, so something has to give in Chicago if they want Dwight. Would they be better off?

Problem with OKC is they have a point guard who doesn't pass and what should be a dominant scorer in Durant that settles for three pointers and 20 footers.  I really like Harden, great third best player to have on your team.  I can see them making the finals, but can't see them winning.  Durant reminds me of Nowitski little more talent before he got aggressive.

"Yes, the Mavs found a way because they didn't get "hot."

You assume they're going to be "hot" every night, which is a rarity. Add in the defensive intenstiy of the playoffs (oh yeah, it picks up!) and you can't expect Miami to just steamroll teams. Miami is stacked, they'll be in the Eastern Conference Finals, but let's be realistic here, they don't have a cakewalk to the championship (especially with Mr. Durant who is also unstoppable, and Mr. Westbrook lurking in the West)

No one can stop either Lebron or Wade when they get hot

Apparently the Mavs found a way.
Yes, the Mavs found a way because they didn't get "hot." In case you don't remember LeBron was pretty much a no-show throughout much of the Finals and especially in the 4th quarter of games and Dirk took over.

Howard/ Rose would be a better fit than Lebron/ Wade because you are comparing a PG/ post match that complement each other to a wing/ wing match that have to work out how to fit together plus need to depend on PG/ post play to keep them winning. This does not mean that Howard and Rose are better than Lebron and Wade as players but as parts of a team they are better assets. Also Howard/ Rose would be able to draw some nice wings to play with them. Already, their supporting cast is better than Miami's supporting cast.

Rose is playing this right. Howard has too many people kneeling at his feet, trying to beg him to come play for a certain franchise. After all the begging, Howard will land somewhere thinking he is bigger than the team. Rose's words treat Howard like another player, not a superman. If Howard comes to Chicago, he will be a solid team mate is the message Rose's words send. Howard should realize that is a perfect location for him rather than somewhere where he will be a demi god before he even accomplishes anything.

What a terrific non-story.  Is the NBA really this boring?  That this is an article?

Good for Rose.  Always does/says the right thing.

Rose and Howard ARE better than Lebron and Wade.  Also the Bulls would be the favorite to win it all.  Rose was kept in check by double and triple teams in the playoffs.  Neither Lebron or Wade guarded Rose straight up most of the time.  Rose is at the very worst just as good of shooter as either of the Miami losers.  As far as shooting a clutch, big time shot it's not even close.  Rose is the man!

@ canebadger  -  Bryant 45.6fg% - 29.2 3pt% - 84.2 ft%  &   Rose 45.8 - 29.8 - 86.6

Rose is a better shooter across the board so far this season, thus your comment fails.

I love when you florida types come on & try to talk sports.
