Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

The circumstances were pretty complex Thursday night. The Orlando Magic blew a 27-point lead, at home, to the Boston Celtics, who had come up as a new possible landing place for Dwight Howard. So while one regular season win or loss is not going to sway Howard one way or the other, it's definitely not the message you want to send if you're Orlando trying to keep the most dominant center in the league playing in your laundry. Especially when afterwards he says things like this, from the Orlando Sentinel:
Howard intimated that teammates didn’t stick to their roles Thursday night’s loss to Boston.

“We didn’t play the right way and we have to change,” he said.“Everybody just can’t come down the floor and feel like they have to take the game over. You just have to play team-ball and play the way we want to play. We didn’t do that.”

Howard included himself in the meltdown inwhich the Magic lost a 27-point lead.

This isn't anything new. Howard, like a lot of stars, is often critical of his team after a particularly bad loss. It just doesn't come at a great time with his impending free agency hanging over the Magic, just hours after he told reporters he'd answer a call from the Celtics about acquiring him.

Howard has told reporters in the past that not having his input weighted more heavily by the front office is part of his decision to ask for a trade. When Howard says the Magic have to "change," he probably has some ideas about how that change should occur. The Magic's fate with regards to Howard has been sealed for months. But Thursday night certainly didn't help.

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

Thank you for your explanation, and I agree, he does seem to make bad choices on shots at times.

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

Personally, I gotta admit that Big Baby is quite a good player. He is not a Chris Bosh, Kevin Love, and will never be one. But his skill set alone, as you say, can get him a starting job in some bottom teams in the league. However, I think the biggest concern is his mentality, his decision making on court. Take a look at any of these:

Promoting bb to starting 5 in a way is 'approving' his acts on court. That's not what the coach wants in my opinion. He doesnt want bb to get over himself with his 'promoted' new role. I think he is one of those players who can only be disciplined on bench. Give him a starting role and he will start jacking up bad shots.

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

If you can get anything remotely close to what the Nuggets got for Melo...JUST TRADE HIM ALREADY and let him go play "General Manager" for another team. This is the idiot that lobbied for the Brandon Bass - Glenn Davis trade. I've been a Magic fan since day 1 and I'm basically done watching this team until this stinking selfcentered crybaby is gone....TRADE HIS WHINY A$$ ALREADY!!!!

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

Its pretty simple, Howards tired of playing for a loser! The Magic not only lost to the Celtics once this week but lost twice! I think the Celtics burst the Magics bubble and now the Magic will sink faster than the titanic did!

Its just a matter of time before Dwight demands a trade from that joke of a franchise to a real team!

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

I was watching this game last night and I turned it off to watch a movie with my wife. I was absolutely shocked this morning when I saw the Magic had lost. Mind blowing.

Admittedly, I am not a big NBA guy, but I like to watch the games and follow certain players. Being the LSU fan that I am, my favorite player is Big Baby Davis. I have a question maybe someone can answer for me. Why isn't Big Baby starting somewhere? He's a great team player, seems to have more than plenty heart, and hustles like I've never seen. I love to watch him play. I understand that he is the kind of player that can come off the bench and supply a spark with a great rebound, dive for a loose ball, or make a power move in the post. Shouldn't he be starting?

I'd love for someone to explain that one to me. I do not know a lot about basketball, so please no sarcastic comments.

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

Lets be real. Look around and see who Howard has surrounding him to play in Orlando, NOBODY. Besides Anderson, everyone else is just there to make up the numbers required to form a team. Howard should just tell the front office that he has given them enough time to bring in better supporting cast and they didn't, so now it's time for him to fly away in search of a new nest.

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

You know what I saw lastnight? A man who can lead a team and a man who can't. It's not about team breakdowns. Both teams did that lastnight. The game was about leadership. Dwight Howard is not a leader.

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

Last nights disaster was a complete team meltdown. Technical fouls when they could not afford to give up more points. The frustration set in and their heads were not in the game. Van Gundy couldn't do anything to stop it. Jameer Nelson continues to show that he is a below average ponint guard but has the starting job because everyone else is worse than he is. Nobody could get it done. Glen Davis was taking terrible shots. This team is still a jump shooting team and will continue to prosper or fail by the jump shot. The next practice should be nothing but free throws. 58 % from the line is unacceptable. Worst free throw shooting team in the league. Going from over 50% shooting from the field in the first half to 38 % for the game tells you the shot selection was awful. Coach needs to take some heat for that. Dwight Howard can complain all he wants but the whole team simply packed it in at half time and already had the win chalked up before the 3rd quarter started. To make matters worse, the Celtics beat them without Rondo and Allen. This team lacks the killer instinct and should have put the Celtics away early in the 3rd quarter.

Dwight Howard: Magic have to 'change'

Howard's subliminal message to the Magic, "I need a change". The All Star game cant come soon enough. Howard will be traded and we wont have to hear or see any more of these articles.
