Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors lost his cool in a heated exchange during a Thursday night game against the Dallas Mavericks, and now it's going to cost him.

The NBA announced on Saturday that Favors has been fined $25,000 for throwing the basketball in frustration towards the Mavericks bench and into the stands, an act that earned him an immediate ejection from the game.

Favors' ball toss came after Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki slapped the ball out of his hands during a dead ball, an action which warranted a technical foul but was not called. Jazz guard Earl Watson retaliated soon after, slapping the ball out of Nowitzki's hands in a similar manner during a subsequent dead ball, and was issued a technical.

Shortly thereafter, with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter and the Jazz leading, 71-70, Favors was called for an offensive foul for setting a moving screen on Mavericks forward Lamar Odom. He receive the pass as he rolled, looked at the referee to see the call and then disgustedly threw the ball with an underhand toss towards the end of the Mavericks bench and into the stands. He was immediately issued two technical fouls, per the league's guidelines on that type of action, and was ejected.

The Mavericks went on to win, 94-91.

I cannot stand the Mavericks, but Hawkman is right. When things aren't going your way you don't pout and retaliate like a child, you keep your composure like a man.

What part of the NBA guideline that says if you throw a ball into the stands you get an ejection don't people understand?  Yeah, Nowitzki deserved a tech earlier, but I understand why it wasn't called.  He had just been cheap-shotted and the ref's head was turned.  Watson, on the other hand, acted like a little kid and even failed to do what he was trying to do.  The way he did it, running into Nowitzki, it almost left the refs no choice.

No, not a Mavs fan.  Just a neutral guy who watched the game.

A blatant technical, right in front of a Ref - and no call.

Forget it Jake, it's the NBA.

I still find it hard to believe only one ref in the NBA was accused of gambling and being invoived with throwing games.

Conspiracy theories anyone?

And I thought the Lakers got all the calls, the Jazz were robbed. I was watching the game on TNT last night and could no believe what I was watching. I know Dirk is a future Hall of Fame player and the Mav's are NBA champions, but how the Refs can make calls against one team and not against another makes me wonder how much they had wagered on the game. That is also why the NBA is will never be what it once was.
