Jerry Sloan was one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. He has 1,221 wins to his name, which is only 114 behind Don Nelson for the most all-time. He's one of only five coaches to reach the thousand win milestone.

But his career ended in kind of a sour manner. After spending pretty much all of his professional head coaching career patrolling the Utah Jazz sideline, he exited halfway through the season last year amidst some reported tension in the locker room between him and Deron Williams. Sloan, who had been a head coach for 23 seasons with the Jazz and is 69 years old, was worn out and obviously didn't want to deal with the egos and problems within the locker room.

So he resigned. And said he thought he was done for good.

But with the way he's talking now, it sounds like he might be reconsidering. Via SI.com, Sloan was asked about coaching again:

"I think if the right situation came along, whatever that is," he said before pausing to ponder. "I don't know what the right situation is. We'll have to wait and see, I guess."

"My energy level has changed a great deal since I quit coaching," said Sloan, who is an avid walker. "It's changed a lot now. I've had time to work out. I feel better."

According to the story, the Pacers contacted Sloan last season about their head coaching position before giving it full time to interim coach Frank Vogel.

So what's the right situation? A high profile job like the Knicks? Maybe something coaching young players like the Wizards? Or an established team just looking for a new direction, maybe like the Hawks? Who knows what Sloan has in mind, but it's pretty obvious that he's going to answer the phone if he gets a call from a team.

A great option for this man would (obviously) be a team with a talented PG PF combo, as no one runs the Pick & Roll quite like this man, and could be what he's best known for in terms of his coaching style. It's time for the Pick & Roll to come back, you don't see many, if any teams running it effectively these days, and can be a great staple to build offense. I think the Wizards with John Wall and Andre Blatche and Javale McGee could be a great destination for him, despite the reports of the players not listening to coaching. With a legendary coach like Jerry Sloan I don't think you would have that issue, and his coaching could help turn around Wall's young and promising career, as well as create a solid team out of the Wizards, who actually have some very talented players on their roster, they just need to have solid coaching and follow it (again, obvious). Now a great fit I believe would be with the Clippers, a roster full of talented young players and one of the best point guards in the league. Del Negro hasn't convinced me that he is a good coach both now and with his time with the Bulls, so if the Clippers decide to get rid of him I think bringing in Sloan would be a great fit for a budding team.

I have the upmost respect for Jerry Sloan-staying in small-market Utah for all of those years and making the most out of his talent (or lack thereof) especially after Karl Malone and John Stockton left (case in point beating Melo and the Nuggets in the 2010 playoffs). It was a shame that he left last season under those circumstances, and it would be greast for the NBA for him to return. Several teams would benefit from his no-nonsense style-I agree the Clippers would be one of them-a good mix of vets and young talent. I couldn't see him doing a rebuiding project with the Wiz-but only Jerry knows right?

Let's see, which current team has a top PG and a top PF a la the old Utah Jazz with John Stockton and Karl Malone? The OBVIOUS choice is the Los Angeles Clippers with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. This is a no-brainer! C'mon Mr Sterling MAKE THAT CALL!!

ASAP because we need a coach like Jerry Sloan to come on board and get this team going! I'd be more than happy to see the team do this and they better do it before another team beats them to the punch!
