Take this one with a grain of salt, but the New York Post's Peter Vescey is reporting that Kevin Love has not received an extension offer from the Minnesota Timberwolves, and should he not receive one in the next 12 days, prior to January 15th, the All-Star rebound machine will not be signing one, and instead be heavily examining signing his qualifying offer this summer to make him a free agent in 2013.

The Timberwolves and Love have always had a contentious relationship. General Manager David Kahn was very lukewarm on the UCLA forward even when he flashed considerable abilities at both ends of the floor his rookie season. He struggled to get minutes under Kurt Rambis before finally bucking off the chains when he simply became too good to keep down. But Kahn has always maintained that Love is a part of the Timberwolves' future and he's not going anywhere. Why are we skeptical of this?

Because it's incomprehensible.

The Timberwolves-are-a-joke meme is almost dead. Drafting Ricky Rubio looks genius, regardless of the Jonny Flynn pick. He's honestly miles ahead of the pack for rookie of the year after the first week and he's not even starting. Derrick Williams looks good. Darko Milicic is serviceable. This team has been assembled as decently as it can be, considering the near-accidental way it has. Rick Adelman was the best hire they could have made and it's already paid off. Love is an All-Star. He's always said he just wants to win. Rookies never get away from their teams on the first contract if they have any value. The guaranteed money and extra year is just too big.

And yet.

So we'll wait, and see just how insane this Timberwolves group is. But if history, common sense, and recent trends are any factor, even if you believe the Timberwolves are still a joke, not even they could make this punchline into reality.

Figures the New York media would push a story like this, just like the Yankees were going to get Joe Mauer right? The Wolves Kahn't be that dumb... At least I really hope not, I just got excited about them again!

love seems to have a instict for basketball. at his height, how does he get all those rebounds. i dont think he runs that fast or jumps that high. if the wolves mess with on salary they are stupid. some of these teams that are mediocre or worse for decades. sometimes it is because they dont seem to know when they have a good player. it slike players on other teams look better to them, or they hire a famous player that cant seem to evaluate good talent

The TimberWolves would look like fools if they don't offer "K-Love" a hefty contract extension! This guy has made gigantic leaps and bounds since joining the NBA and the ceiling is so high for him to get even better. The "T-Wolves" should have learned their lesson after finally getting rid "KG" so I believe that they'll do the right thing and sign him to an offer for him to stay in Minnesota for quite some time.

Not to be Captain obvious but the Wolves have to pay and build around Rubio, Williams and Love.  Everyone else is superfluous on that team.

Report: Kevin Love has not been offered extension

Timberwolves are finally starting to look like a basketball team. Losing Love for nothing would be a disaster and turn them back into a joke.

Love is a summer workout partner of D Rose.  He would be a perfect fit in Chicago, and make them a real championshp contender.

Well it is real simple, MORE WINS THAN LOSSES, get extensions. He has to show them some kind of hope. I think Kevin will eventually get one.

Oh for Pete's sake. What is on your plate more important at this time than securing K-Love? I surely hope that Coach Rick has some degree of influence with Glen Taylor. Is there no one assigned to the monitoring the maturation of player contracts? I have gotten caught up myself in the excitement of the team but I may be forgiven  because I don't have the means to immerse myself in the minutiae of the team's initial progress, which is like night and day. This has been truly appreciated by anyone willing even a casual glance. The team's skill level and adoption of a new system, personnel, and attitude has been remarkable. I applaud David Kahn's moves to get us this far. The problem I have is memory. I don't remember Steve Nash at Greyhound and not being looked at but I do remember Chauncy, Udriu, Bobby Jackson all coming here for I assume a tryout. Chauncy was allowed to just leave as an uninvited guest. Is that the plan for K-Love? Just allow him to walk away? From the home town team this cannot be the way the faithful and those uf us too dumb to know any better are treated. Abuse of this sort cannot be tolerated. Either get David some help or a Garmin. This feels to good to be taken away.
