NBA reduces Bynum's suspension to four games

Here you go Lakers, the NBA's throwing you a bone after that whole Chris Paul thing.

The league announced Friday that Andrew Bynum's five-game suspension for trying to decapitate J.J. Barea in the playoffs has been reduced to four games because of the shortened season.

Charlie Villanueva, who was serving a five game suspension as well, will have his reduced to four too. Villanueva was suspended five games last season for an altercation with Cleveland's Ryan Hollins, but only has to serve three more games as he already sat out one last year.

It's a completely fair move by the league, as a five-game suspension in a 66-game season equates to a little more than six games in a regular 82-game season.

Pretty important development for the Lakers though, as Bynum's suspension could've potentially started the team out in a bit of a hole. Kobe's got an injured wrist, there's no Lamar Odom to fill in at power forward while Pau Gasol plays center, so without Bynum, the Lakers could really be hurting. While he still have to miss four, just getting one back is a nice Christmas present from the league.

Bogus by the leauge, but what else should be expected. As an after thought, they also reduce Villanueva's suspension. Don't try and tell anyone this was out of fairness rather than the league trying not to put one of its "marquee" franchises behind the eightball so they can make the playoffs. And Michael Jordan never committed any fouls when he was playing either. (cue sarcastic eye roll)

I disagree with the reduction of games as the foul Bynum committed had to be one of the worst I've seen in professional basketball.  Not sure who the Lakers will start at Power Forward but IMHO Metta World Peace would be the best possible option to start at the 4.  The player formally known as Ron Artest is still a respectable defender and can still guard 2-3 positions.  The Lakers will be small but athletic.

GO LAKERS!!!!!

NBA discipline is a joke. That was a horrendous foul, and now they are reducing his suspension because of a lockout-shortened season ? If the season was going the normall 82 games, and Bynum appealed, would they have lengthened his suspension ? Hardly. The NBA owners need to grow a set, and get new leadership at the top.

The NBA gave Latrell Sprewell a walk after he choked his coach in practice.  He should have not only been banned for life he should have been convicted for assault.  Since then any NBA punishment has been a meaningless joke.  You go in and try to choke your boss and see what happens.

He deserved to be suspended for taking his shirt off and showing his ugly naked body in public - that was complete show of disrespect and poor sportsmanship.  The suspensions are needed to send a strong message not to do that garbage

TLF--I am sure he looks a lot better naked than your wrinkly old a-- :P

So Bynum's suspension is not about the severity of the play but the length of the season?   I remember that play.  He could have ended his career right there.  The NBA keeps making itself look like a bunch of clowns.
