Report: NBA to have five Christmas Day games

The NBA will open the 2011-12 season on Christmas, but not with the triple-header that David Stern himself said during the end-of-the-lockout press conference. Instead, there will be a five-game set with one on TNT, two on ABC and two on ESPN, according to the New York Times.

Times, all Eastern, would be noon, 2:30, 5:00, 8:00 and 10:30.

Last season the NBA had five games on Christmas with pretty much that exact same setup. Originally, the schedule this season was to feature a triple-header with the Celtics at the Knicks, the Heat at the Mavericks and the Bulls at the Lakers.

I'd assume those games would remain, but the league would bring in two more marquee teams to play. Maybe the Thunder against the Grizzlies in a Western semifinal rematch? Or the Clippers at the Magic? Blake Griffin versus Dwight Howard would certainly draw interest, I'd think.

Look for the full, revised NBA schedule to come out sometime next week.

This isn't a tell us why you don't like basketball forum, I suggest you all get together and go start a thread in the message board and you can do your whining over there. I am sure there is a "KKK" forum some where on the internet where you can also make your racist comments. No one cares that you don't like the NBA lol.... get over it. It's starting in a few weeks regardless of how much you whine like little girls about not liking it.

Sure all sports changed. But the differance between football and baseball vs NBA is legitamacy.  There is a legit game being played in those sports..basketball is one step up from wwf..its not a sport it's entertainment. How else can a game have different rule for different players?  The star should get the call? wtf..its a joke and a disgrace. Call me racist..it's all ya got

I don't get where in that statement you see a "racist" tone. Seems to me the obvious was stated about how the game is being officiated and nothing else. Why do people still latch on to the whole race thing....it has nothing to do with it!!! I myself will not be watching the game on christmas, and I am a huge Bulls fan. I like what we have here in Chicago with Derrick Rose, and I feel that he will only get better. But I think these players need to know that we the fans are upset that they have not cared at all about the people who help pay their paychecks...the fans. One month of the season is lost....due to what?? GREED!!! I dont care what color you are...white, black, purple with pink polka-dots...it doesnt matter. These guys knew only one color....GREEN!! I will come back to the NBA and my Bulls, but I think we the fans owe it to the players to let them know how upsetting the fact that we lost a month of basketball is. But I guess you may find me "racist" too!!

The NBA couldn't have picked a worse time to start their season.People have lot's of things going on & I can't see many of them attending a basketball game.As for TV the NFL has the Bears @ GB Christmas night.I hope the NBA bombs this year to teach the wealthy owners & players a lesson for all the drama they caused . I don't consider the NBA a legitimate sport anyway; The way it's played today it's a contest for tall guys, with several exceptions. There are no Jordons,Birds,Magic's in this selfish league.I don't like it & I'm not the only one!
If the NFL's a 10,MLB is a 9,college Bball an 8 Hockey a 7, MMA a 6, boxing a 4,golf a 3 & the NBA a solid 1.5.
