Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley would like to kindly submit an entry for consideration into the the pantheon of memorable player slogans to emerge from the ongoing NBA lockout.

To recap, we've got "How u" by Roger Mason, "Let us play" by Derek Fisher, "Love the game" by Jordan Brand and "Ready to fold" by JaVale McGee.

Beasley's submission: "Kind of retarded." Oh boy.

Yes, that's how the problematic chucker chose to describe the current state of negotiations at a charity baskedball game in Oklahoma City, reports the Associated Press.
"Fighting over 3 percent, that’s kind of retarded to me,” said Michael Beasley, who scored a game-high 56 points. “But it is what is. We’ll come to an agreement.”

“The quicker we can get a deal done, the better,” he added. “Like I’ve been saying before, the main ones suffering are our fans.”

Let's just put aside the obvious insensitivity and political incorrectness to focus on his larger point, whatever that might be. Seriously, I'm not sure I've ever heard someone refer to a billion dollars and the structure which will govern their livelihood for the duration of the career so dismissively. But, hey, Be Easy, right?

Frustration is one thing, and everyone involved is feeling frustrated, but this is the wrong way to express it. Whether he realizes it or not -- probably not -- Beasley's "I don't care about the details, let's just get it done" attitude is exactly the sentiment the NBA owners are banking on. That's music to their system redesigning ears.

Uninformed apathy and blind faith in a resolution are major reasons the owners can move forward with a plan to cancel the early portion of the season, costing players paychecks and increasing the urgency factor. Pretty soon, "We'll come to an agreement" will transform into "We need to come to an agreement!" and that will morph into "SERIOUSLY, GUYS, WE NEED AN AGREEMENT" and before you know it the players union leadership is catching real pressure from two sides.

We shouldn't expect anything less from Beasley, though, as his marijuana bust, face mushing of a fan and bait-and-switch All-Star Classic reminded us this summer that he lives in his own universe.

In a perfect twist, reported Tuesday that Beasley can't even keep a shoe deal, getting dumped by adidas recently. In light of that, maybe it would be best for Beasley to let Billy Hunter and Derek Fisher handle the heavy lifting from here on out.

Beasley: NBA negotiations are 'kind of retarded'

As a Heat fan, I can say this, Michael Beasley was by far the worst player to put on a Heat uniform. I think America has seen that he is by far the worse player to ever set foot on an sports setting. A lot of times the word cancer is too loosely used to describe a player that brings about a negative vibe to his surrondings, but when it comes to Michael Bust Beasley, that word fits perfectly. This guy was a problem before the draft, hes been a problem every single off season and does nothing during the season. hopefully minnesota comes to their senses and lets him go, this bum needs to realize that if it werent for the heat making the mistake they made in drafting him, he would never have been in the nba to begin with. the only thing retarded is michael beasley, the most retarded biggest cancer this league has seen

Beasley: NBA negotiations are 'kind of retarded'

Was anyone expecting Beasley to utter some words of wisdom in an eloquent format?  He was participating in a game and asked a question, of course his immediate unfiltered response would be something like "this is retarded".  Now I know all the PC people are going to get up in arms over his use of the word....just another thing for people with nothing better to do to get upset about.  Whether you agree with his choice of words or not, he is right.......this whole thing is ridiculous.  Now he did lose me when he said the real losers are the they are not; the real losers are the people that rely on the work created by the season in order to feed their families.  I am sure that not one of those people wants to hear one more word about about wanting to get it done.  Someone should knock some sense and reality into everyone..........quit hurting the really innocent folks here and get to work.

Beasley: NBA negotiations are 'kind of retarded'

By the way this negotiation is insulting to every fan and to every worker laid off due to the lockout.

Beasley: NBA negotiations are 'kind of retarded'

Actually this is the smartest comment I have heard ever from Beasely. Ok not politically correct or well worded but it is true. It is crazy that they are possibly losing a season (or at least part of a season) over 3%. If they split the difference it means each side comes up or goes down 1.5%.

What is 1.5% of 4.7 billion dollars? 70.5 million divided by 30 teams is 2.35 million divided by 15 players is 157,000 per player. The billionaire owners come up $157,000 per player, the millionaire players come down $157,000 per player- there is your deal.

Some of these players should have attended some college classes so they understand what the 3% really means to a 5 million dollar contract.

The fact that they will not settle (for lack of a better descriptor) is retarded!

Beasley: NBA negotiations are 'kind of retarded'

By definition, this situation is in fact 'retarded'.

If you automatically assume that the word 'retarded' is reserved for people with mental and/or physical disabilities (as the author of this article apparantly has) THAT, my sir, would be politically incorrect.

Wow, an athlete says something stupid. Let's all faine surprise, shock, and outrage. C'mon now, in the age of Twitter this type of thing happens almost every day.  A vast majority (I realize not all) of professional athletes are not overly intelligent people. They constantly do and say stupid things. A daily visit to Deadspin can confirm that for you quickly.

Beasley put it in the simplest terms.  Forget about all the PC bull and take it for what it's worth, a simple and honest assesment.  Most everyone feels the same way with the exception that fans have gotten SO pissed off, they don't care if the season gets cancelled or not.
