The FMCS released a statement on behalf of federal mediator George Cohen indicating that the two sides in the NBA-NBPA dispute are so far apart it does not warrant further mediation by the FMCS.

Here is the statement.

NEW YORK, NY — “As a follow up to the NBA’s and NBA Players Association agreeing to my invitation to conduct negotiations under the auspices of the FMCS, three days of mediation have taken place.  During this period, a wide variety of issues were addressed in a professional, thoughtful manner, consistent with what one would expect to take place in a constructive collective bargaining setting.

Regrettably, however, the parties have not achieved an overall agreement, nor have they been able to resolve the strongly held, competing positions that separated them on core issues.

NBA LOCKOUT

In these circumstances, after carefully reviewing all of the events that have transpired, it is the considered judgment of myself and Deputy Director Scot Beckenbaugh, who has been engaged with me throughout this process, that no useful purpose would be served by requesting the parties to continue the mediation process at this time.  For our part, the Agency has advised the parties that we will be willing and prepared to continue to facilitate any future discussions upon their mutual request.”

Redsfan1507, Yeah, Yeah. We get it... Not every black kid receives the same kind of education. I'm not even going to get into what an injustice that is.  You are so full of Hate!  I think you are either a plant by the owners to create sympathy or a member of the clan.  It's hard to believe that you even remotely represent the average fan.  You are the worst kind of racist. If you can't make your point without going there, then you are the one that needs to go back to school, Dummy

Greed is going to cost both groups so much money it is ridiculous, nevermind all the other workers/employees that are affected by this strike.  Really hard to identify with either group, both groups are set for life but greed is going to screw them both out of a tonne of money.

Tell you what, hopefully college ball becomes even more popular with no NBA in the way.  The team basketball is so much better, don't have nearly as many of the one on one athletes/talents that are in the NBA, but watching teams play team-oriented basketball and playing hard every game is more exciting/enjoyable to watch.

Substitute teachers don't last long in the projects, do they ?

The players aren't a very intelligent group. Not only can they not undertstand that owners CAN'T "NEGOTIATE" a LOSS anymore, they don't understand why it's ridiculous to demand "guarantees, increases" and won't accept "shorter contracts or reduced max contracts or caps" for themselves...in other words, the NBA lost $300 million last year, the players "concessions" amounted to a $100 mil loss, and they don't understand why that's not good enough ?

IT'S 3rd GRADE MATH.

Oops, I guess if you're 6'2 in 3rd grade, you don't have to take math, or english either. Sorry...lets translate

Sad, because when it comes to books, Irving is probably the dipshit.
That "dipshit" is pulling a 3.0 at Duke University and is back on campus right now working on more credits towards his degree.  You can hate on Duke for some things, but you can't knock the book-smarts of its ballplayers.  Duke is well-known for not bending its admission requirements and expectations for potential student-athletes unlike some other members of the NCAA.

If you're going to knock former college student-athletes for forgetting they're supposed to be students 1st when they play for a college or university, make a smarter pick than to rip on a Duke player.  FYI -- At the start of last year's men's tournament, Arizona was on record as graduating only 20% of its players while national champion Connecticut only graduated 31% of its players.  Go pick on them and your attacks will hold water.

It's looking like there will be no NBA season.  I can only imagine those who left college early and were drafted in June thinking that they would be receiving multi-million dollar bonuses.  Kyrie Irving, how's Cleveland?
