Javaris Crittenton, a former NBA player best known for being suspended by the league for bringing a gun into the Washington Wizards' locker room, has been charged with murder in the shooting of a woman in Atlanta.

From WSBTV in Atlanta
An arrest warrant has been issued for former NBA player and Georgia Tech star Javaris Crittenton in connection with the shooting death of a mother of four, Atlanta police said.

The shooting happened Aug. 19 shortly before 10 p.m. in the 2900 block of Macon Drive in southwest Atlanta.

Investigators said 22-year-old Jullian Jones was walking with others when someone from a dark SUV opened fire. Jones was struck and later died.

The report also states that the targets were two unarmed men in the company of the victim and the shooting is believed to be in retaliation for a robbery of Crittenton in April.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the FBI is involved in the investigation, and that Crittenton is not in custody, as he's currently in L.A. The two men believed to be the target were unharmed and fled the scene. The AJC reports that several people witnessed the shooting.

NBA LEGAL TROUBLE

An athletic guard with handle, Crittenton was drafted by the Lakers, and was then traded to the Grizzlies in the Pau Gasol deal, then later dealt to the Wizards. He infamously became entrenched in the bet that wound up with Gilbert Arenas bringing out his guns in the locker room, with Crittenton making similar threats. He was signed briefly with the Bobcats before the 2010-2011 season but was waived prior the season and finished the year with the D-League.

More from the Associated Press report:
Jones, a mother of four, was walking with a group of people on the city's southwest side when she was shot by someone inside a dark-colored SUV, police said.

Investigators say they don't believe the woman was the intended target. Campos said the motive appears to be retaliation for a robbery in April, in which Crittenton was a victim.

Crittenton was suspended for the final 38 games of the 2009-10 season by the NBA after he and Arenas acknowledged bringing guns into the locker room. Two days after a dispute stemming from a card game on a team flight, Arenas brought four guns to the locker room and set them in front of Crittenton's locker with a sign telling him to "PICK 1." Crittenton then took out his own gun.

Crittenton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge on Jan. 25, 2010, and received probation.

After the Wizards declined to re-sign him, he signed a non-guaranteed contract with Charlotte before last season. The Bobcats waived him Oct. 15, and he then played five games in China for the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions, averaging 25.8 points. He also played 20 games for the NBDL's Dakota Wizards, averaging 14.3 points.

Crittenton was drafted 19th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007. He played little with Los Angeles and was traded to Memphis in his rookie year, then to Washington in December 2008.

Crittenton averaged 5.3 points and 1.8 assists in 113 NBA games.

Crittenton charged with murder of Atlanta woman

One thing I have learned from the courts and legal process is that evidence must be produced to incriminate a person.  To incriminate a person is just as bad as the crime without evidence especially if the accusation is done in the court of public opinion and has no relativity to an actual court case where evidence can be produced.

I really don't know much about Javaris Crittendon except he was involved with Gilbert Arenas in bringing guns to a locker room.  Knowing Gil, Crittendon was probably the aggressor.  But still that is not enough evidence to practice irresponsible journalism.  Right now this means nothing except an arrest warrant and no evidence.  Let the courts play out their due process and if the prosecution can provide evidence that Crittendon was responsible than have at him but right now he is just a 22 year old kid that has a right to life just like anyone else.

My heart goes out to the poor woman. My question to Mr Crittenton is "what the phuck were you thinking? I remember my grandmother used to tell me and my brother growing up to " never make decisions off emotion and learn to control it"...As I've grown to become a man those words are so true and its gets people in trouble all the time. I know he heard a voice in his conscience say to leave it alone but he let his anger control him and look what happened.

Another Case Of Wasted Talent And Loss Of Life

This guy worked harder at "Thuglife" than improving his basketball skills! He had a great opportunity getting drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers as a first round draft pick, but instead of improving and trying to extend his NBA career he chose another path. It's a shame that 4 little kids lost their mother who wasn't even Crittenton's supposed target.

I wonder where you're writing from?  Dosen't matter really, as you sit in your parent's basement, hiding behind "mommy's computer".  here's a tip for you, "There are more whites on welfare in the US than the ENTIRE POPULATION OF BLACKS COMBINED!!"  So, why don't you actually educate yourself while your sponging off your parents instead of spending your time writing hate in sports forums and masturbating on porn sites all day!  Sick coward!

CBS Sports (and others) should install a new policy that requires everyone to use their real (government) name. This will provide all of the closet racists (black, white, brown, et al.) with a unique opportunity to "keep it real" and espouse their true views. In addition, spouses, friends, family and co-workers are not surprised, when they return home with a well-deserved concussion from the hand of a spouse, family member, friend and/or co-worker. It's easy to hide behind a fake-ass name, while spewing racial hatred. Let's see someone use their real name, so there is some accountability. Thankfully, no specific group has a monopoly on ignorance. Unfortunately, these message boards are filled with people who are comfortable using unacceptable language, under the guise of anonymity. Let's keep it real and use your real names, when you decided to go low-down and dirty. If you want people to respect your racist and sexist views, use your good ol' government name. All of the name-calling and racist language is getting old. Make your point and move on. If racism is a requirement for you to post a response, why bother? Or, the people monitoring the posts should automatically delete this garbage. As a nation, we can and should do better. Otherwise, the world we leave our kids will not be a world worth living in and sports, as we know it, will cease to exist. Free speech isn't free, without accountability. You reap what you sow!
