Report: Kobe breaks off talks with Besiktas

For the 15th time, it looks like Kobe's great Turkish adventure isn't happening.

Sportando.net reports that Kobe's agent, Rob Pelinka, has declined every offer from Besiktas and that both sides have come to the conclusion they won't be able to agree on a contract.

Pelinka recently met with Besiktas over Kobe's future with the team and while reports had the discussions as "positive," it doesn't look like the sides could come to a conclusion. Basically, it sounds like Besiktas just couldn't come up with enough money to satisfy the Bryant camp. Reports had their offer initially in the $500,000 per month range.

Besiktas of course already signed Nets guard Deron Williams for a reported $250,000 a month.

If Kobe is off the table, Besiktas will likely refocus all efforts on to Kevin Durant, who is reportedly in early talks with the Turkish club. Durant had recently said he was "50-50" about going overseas.

Kobe, if he's looking for an overseas contract, could look at another Euroleague team but might consider his Chinese options as well. The China stuff is hazy though because of the league possibly passing a rule that won't allow NBA players under contract to sign and then leave to return for the NBA.

Something tells me though that this isn't the last of Kobe and Besiktas's dance. We can hope though.

Quit whining about money you socialist tool. He makes that much money because he possesses physical skills and has talent that the public is willing to subsidize...that's like telling the top dog at a school that he can't have all the hot girls...ok dork get a clue.

What a loser, your already rich buddy why don't you do something for the love of the game for once. Turning down a deal worth 500,000 a monlth is so insulting to all the people in this world living paycheck to paycheck or that have no job at all, no other club should offer him anything as he is a self absorbed ass.

Maybe maybe not.  I'm sure they look at this as an opportunity for a life experience...even Kobe.  It's a good leverage play anyways, considering they have no leverage otherwise with a league so far in debt it's silly.

Report: Kobe breaks off talks with Besiktas

We already know Kobe was not going to play in Turkey. If there's any other place or country that he would feel comfortable to play in, it would be in Italy just simply because he had lived there and speaks Italian. Somehow I have the feeling that all these "All Star" players talking about playing overseas is just talk. I can see other lowly paid NBA players playing overseans but for all these mega star players, I doubt it. I'm sure their agents and themselves have to think of the possibility of them getting injured and the money they're getting to play in overseas is not even close to what they'll be making in the NBA. I'm sure the "All Stars" have enough money for them to survive for several years if not their lifetime if the NBA lockout continues. Maybe down the road if they know for sure the NBA is doom, they might play overseas but until that time comes, I don't see them going anywhere except their living/game room playing video games with their kids.
