Toni Kukoc allegedly caught in prostitution ring

You thought Dennis Rodman was the bad boy of the 1990s Chicago Bulls, didn't you? Think again. reports that former NBA player Toni Kukoc, who was imported to Chicago for the 1993-1994 season and was a key cog on three Bulls title teams, has allegedly found himself entangled in a prostitution ring that was recently busted back in his home country.
Croatian basketballer Toni Kukoc has shrugged his shoulders at the allegations he has been one of the "beneficiaries" of the elite prostitution ring uncovered recently in Croatia.

"I was in worse situations in life. What should I do? Return home to Split? Of course I will stay in Osijek," Kukoc told the media after his name emerged in connection with the elite prostitution ring headed by Nebojsa Perunovic Pance who was arrested last week.

Pance is suspected of pimping young starlets, wanna-be-models and other beautiful girls to Austrian businessmen, rich Russians, and it appears, sports stars.
He sure sounds really worried about this whole thing. Croatian Times also reports Kukoc denies the allegations so this is likely one of those "innocent until proven guilty or you pay off the right person" type of situations.

Kukoc has lived an extraordinary life, winning every possible European award, grabbing three NBA rings with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, and following that up by turning himself into Croatia's best amateur golfer.  It might seem a bit surprising at first that he would say he's been in worse situations than a prostitution scandal.

Of course you must remember that Kukoc's homeland became a country after a bitter civil war in Yugoslavia that killed hundreds of thousands and ruined relationships between Croatian and Serbian basketball players. So, yeah, this little legal drama really does pale in comparison.

Toni Kukoc allegedly caught in prostitution ring

Its not like NBA writers have anything else to do - how about you go get us some detail, okay Mr. Professional Journalist guy.

THIS is an example of POOR journalism.  What is he accused of?  Could he be facing jail time?  How big is the "prostitution ring"? The author alluded to Kukoc being "imported" give the reader an international backdrop - was he human trafficing women to the states, or was he just a guy who paid for a couple of "dates"?

I would expect more real info than this from TMZ.   C'mon cbssports, you gotta do better than this.

Clay - No, I can't stand that woman. The field of law I work in, I cross paths with a lot of this sort of stuff. Never deal with it directly, but I hear enough of it often enough to be able to read more into stories such as these. Not claiming to be an authority, just assuming there is more than is disclosed here is all.

Toni Kukoc allegedly caught in prostitution ring

Being in the Balkans, I would not be surprised if a revised or new version of this story emerged that chronicled that this ring was involved in human trafficking, and that many financeers like Kukoc have funded organized crime groups that will be found to have raped, tortured, forcibly confined, and potentially murdered many young ladies. Disgrace.

Wow Dinko! It sure sounds like you have insider knowledge into the prostitution business in eastern Europe. I'm headed over there later this year and could really use some phone numbers or contacts to help me pass the nights. I'm telling you upfront bro that $300 is my limit.

Toni Kukoc allegedly caught in prostitution ring

When I intially read this article, I was reading it as implying that Kukoc was a ringleader.  According to the Croatian papers, however, it sounds like Kukoc is just implicated as having paid for services as any highroller scumbag would.  But, actually pimping, no.

Whether you support the legalization of prostitution or not, ethically one has to be disgusted with some of the prostitution rings that run in the former Yugoslavia.  The war disrupted quite a bit and the presence of American/NATO/UNPROFOR troops created quite a demand -- the collateral damage of having foreign soldiers there to "protect" the population.

Important to note: by elite, I think it means that it's probably Croatian women being prostituted.  If not elite, it likely means women being smuggled westward from Moldova or some other former Soviet Republic, women who haven't been able to make it all the way to Italy or points futher west.

Just so I don't sound too intellectually analytic as I contribute my thoughts to a sports webpage: I will agree, Croatian women are, unequivocally, the most beautiful in the world.  There is no contest.  But, that doesn't mean I support the misogyny towards or exploitation of Croatian women or any women.

Toni Kukoc allegedly caught in prostitution ring

Come on! Oops; that's not the correct phrase but an NBA dude getting linked to "women of the evening" isn't exactly breaking news. Hell; the Kobester expected a little action{gratis} when he made the jaunt to Colorado back in the day. What the hell is wrong with rich dudes hooking up with another pro. After all, it'll take a couple hundred in drinks and dinner to get the same result.

Toni Kukoc allegedly caught in prostitution ring

ESPN's Bob Lay is reporting several former and current NBA players have been found to have paid women for services rendered throughout the country. Reports are that the "girls" in Phoenix, Atlanta, and Dallas were the highest-priced pros while women in Miami, L.A. and New Orleans would gladly perform for a fee of only 3 drinks. Commish David Stern is reportedly looking deeper into this matter and has taken bold steps to get to the bottom of this emerging scandal and has stated he would personally interview dozens of these women in his New York headquarters.
