Former NBA All-Star Antoine Walker pleaded guilty in a Las Vegas gambling debt mess. Posted by Ben Golliver. antoine-walker

The trials and tribulations of Antoine Walker have added yet another chapter.

On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Sun reported that Walker, a former NBA All-Star who played for the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat, among other teams, pleaded guilty to felony charges in Nevada over unpaid gambling debts reportedly totalling more than $750,000.
Professional basketball's Antoine Walker pleaded guilty to felony bad check charges Tuesday morning in Clark County District Court.

“Being put on probation, he’ll have a court order to pay the restitution to the casinos,” said Deputy District Attorney Sam Bateman.

The criminal complaint was filed in the summer of 2009, when Walker failed to pay back gambling debts at Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood and the Red Rock Resort. He pleaded not guilty to six felony counts related to drawing checks without sufficient funds with attempt to defraud in June 2010, before changing his plea Tuesday.
In November, word surfaced that Walker, 34, was headed to play for the Stampede, where he averaged 16.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 43 games this season.

His expressed goal of playing in the D-League was to hook on with an NBA team for a final run. He last played in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2007-2008 season and was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies in Dec. 2008 without appearing in any regular season games. Since then, he played professionally in Puerto Rico.

Walker was known for his extravagant spending during his NBA career, reportedly amassing a large collection of automobiles and multiple houses.

This is how the decade-long party ends. With lawyers vacuuming up every last dollar bill.

Does anyone have an estimate as to Walker's lifetime earnings in the NBA?  Isn't it in the tens of millions?  And I thought I mismanaged my money!

Yeah. He grossed about 110 million dollars in his NBA career.  But I read a story that pretty well explains why the moron declared bankruptcy a while back and why he's broke.  First of all his mother was quoted as saying that Walker was supporting as many as 70 people during his playing days.... family, friends, etc.   And oh yeah, talking about his mother he found it necessary to build her a mansion in the Chicago Suburbs complete with an indoor pool and TEN BATHROOMS... because you know, everybody needs 10 bathrooms in their house.

And of course he had two Bentleys, two Mercedes, a Range Rover, a Cadillac Escalade, a bright red Hummer and God knows how many other vehicles he didn't need.   The thing is the mansion was only worth about 2 or 3 million dollars and all those cars don't add up to much more then 2 million dollars... total for all those things doesn't exceed 5 million dollars which is at most 1 year of post tax income.

His problem obviously existed for 2 reasons... one was a gambling problem and the second the 70 friends and family members mooching off him... gotta wonder why these guys don't realize after 3, 4 or even 5 years they are broke after making 30 or 40 million dollars.. why does it take 13 years and 110 million gone to figure it out?

Probation REALLY......I know people that wrote bad checks for way way way less then that and are serving jail time.....Now tell me that famous people don't gat breaks.....SMH.........I had a friend that wrote a bad check for $550 bucks and got fined with court costs and all a little over $2,220 and got 30 days in county jail....Now can someone tell mehow that's right????

Doesn't make sense, you're right about that.  Obviously being an athlete with connections helped him a lot because if probation was really all the courts could to somebody that gets caught writing bad checks for hundreds of thousands of dollars a lot more people would do it. Heck I've never been a criminal but the day you tell me I can write some bad checks and have hundreds of thousands of dollars to play with I'll do it in a second if probation is the worst thing that can happen to me.  I'll hide that money in places they'll never find it and they can issue all the judgements they want for me to pay it back,,, it's actually worth doing if you don't end up in jail.

Another case of believing in your own hype. I don't get it as much as I don't understand how these clowns do not realize how a Bank account works. They have plenty of time to complain that they aren't getting what they think they are worth. Maybe the hooked on phonics didn't work to well, because when they told him to stop spending, he thought they said...SPEND IT ALL!!! Did he not realize that he would have to retire eventually and that there wouldn't be a 10 million dollar salary every year for the rest of his life? But hey...atleast he's not Antonio Cromartie, what...9 kids with 8 woman? Now there's a guy who will be paying for it the rest of his life. For god sake, Cromartie had to get over 500k from the Jets BEFORE he even signed with them to pay off his child support. When will these idiots learn that's it's a privaledge, not a right. REAP what you sow. No love and no pitty.
Thank goodness there isn't an article on the horizon about Latrell Spreawell, atleast we hope not.

Walker is a victim of his own excess, remember mc hammer in the 90s?  Same deal, both had a GIANT entourage of hangers on and leaches sucking money off them for not doing a darned thing.  Antwoine is actually a nice guy, he's just insecure and needs all these people around him and has a serious gambling problem.

A total shame how much money he wasted but if he doesnt stop the gambling and the need to impress everyone in his inner circle the future could get a heck of alot darker.

Most Celtic fans want to feel sorry for him but he did it to himself so he needs to clean himself up before he ends up locked up for good.

Well, that makes sense.  A 34 year old guy that grossed about 110 million dollars in his career declares bankruptcy in 2010 and is now pleading guilty to writing bad checks for 750 grand.  Tell me again how a player that grossed that much money can screw up that bad?

And oh yeah, can union supporters tell me one more time how the players are going to hold out longer then the owners and get the deal they want for a new CBA?

That kind of logic deserves a big LOL
