Heat partied with Mavericks after Game 6?

See, when people question their will to win? This is what they're talking about.

Reports surfaced Monday on 790 The Ticket in Miami that some Heat players joined the Mavericks on Sunday night while the new NBA champs partied on South Beach (photos!) after their Game 6 win. One trusted member of Mavs media confirmed that Erick Dampier was one of the Miami members in attendance, along with unnamed others.

Just so we're clear on this. The Mavs trash-talked you all series long, dashed your title hopes, put even more criticism on your squad, celebrated on your floor and then in your city, and you go party with them? Nice chemistry guys. A few assorted thoughts:

  • The Big Three reportedly were not part of the celebration, but would it surprise you in the slightest if they were? Would that shock you in any way? If LeBron James had gone down there to party with JET, it would have been just more delight for the millions of people that took abject glee in the fall of the Heat and James in particular. It's a good thing they didn't head down there as far as we knew.
  • On the flip side of this, I tried explaining to people how much of this entire process is theatrics. Do the Mavs and Heat organizations like each other? No. Do Dirk and Wade get along? Probably not. But it's not personal, and all of these players consider themselves part of a brotherhood of players. Once the buzzer sounds, most of them are friends with one another. We like to think of these as blood rivalries like the one that existed with the Celtics and Lakers of the 80's but things aren't like that. Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant are buds, though they try and keep that one quiet for PR purposes. That said, KG would never celebrate with the team that defeated him.
  • How does one make that decision? "Well, I just lost the NBA Finals. What can I do? I guess I'll go out, since I live in Miami. Hmm. Maybe I should go drink and dance with the guys that just made me look like a group of slugs offensively and shut us down on our own floor. That sounds fun! Surely no one will see me!"
  • There likely won't be repercussions from this for Maimi, but there should be. Players that partake in that kind of behavior shouldn't be allowed to return to the team. Dampier is old enough to where he probably doesn't care, and after so many years in Dallas, you can understand him wanting to see his guys celebrate. But at the same time, one of the Heat's biggest issues this year was chemistry, and having guys who aren't fully committed to the organization is part of that.
  • It's an insult to Chris Bosh, who was emotionally wrecked after the loss. Say what you want about Bosh, he played his face off in the postseason and wanted to win badly. He cared.

Heat partied with Mavericks after Game 6?

This is an absolutely ridiculous article. Who cares that they drank together? It's not unspeakable that certain players are friendly with the team they just played. It's not a personal attack on the players who didn't go out with them. It just shows they left everything on the court. They may be disappointed with the loss but it's just a game, life goes on.

I agree with all of those who point out what a silly article this is.   However, I won't attack you personally.  There are simply too many jobs out there for sports pundits, bloggers, opinionators, etc.  It has gotten a bit ridiculous.  No you don't get paid much, as I hear the radio guys point out all the time, but really this stuff becomes so pointless it is driving me back towards the real world.  About time too since I'm in my 40's.

In Erick Dampier's case I can understand that. He gave us a lot of good years in Dallas and is probably still friends with some of the Mavs' players. It's also not like he personally saw any action in this playoffs.

As for the rest of the Heat. Consider them open season for criticism.

they should celebrate with them while they didn;t win they did make it to teh finals. On a different note should they hate their guts, be bad sportman? This is basketball, not like the Marines were celebrating with Al Quaeda, or Jews congratulating Nazis! The NBA is not a life or death situation and no one should commit suicide or be miserable. Life goes on, this is not an issue

Heat partied with Mavericks after Game 6

OMG!!! Was B******* about Miami all season nt enough? Now, people are still complaining about them even after they lost. Seriously? While I can see how this could be seen as a lack of respect and pride for ones own team, but a lot of the guys in the NBA are ACTUALLY friends with one another. So, who cares if some guys from Miami (who barely did their part to get the team to the finals to begin with) were hanging with the Mavs after the game. Move on people! The NBA is not about The Heat, as much fun as it is to hate them its now becoming cliche. Plus, its not like the Heat players are really "celebrating" with the Mavs, they are just hanging with their friends and sharing in the fun atmosphere of booze and South Beach. Nothing wrong with that, especially after a really long season.

Heat partied with Mavericks after Game 6

The point of this article is that after losing in the NBA finals you should be too upset to go out and party with the team that just took your hopes and dreams away.  You play an 82 game season and claw your way through the playoffs.  After all that, your desire to win the championship should be so intense, that after losing, celebrating should be the last thing you'd want to do.  Partying the same night as losing a championship game shows you have no emotional attachment to the job you do.  It's a slap in the face to the rest of your team mates.

Heat partied with Mavericks after Game 6

This is a classic example of the idiot media out of control. Dampier?? The one long time Mavs player who barely played for the Heat was at a party with his former teammates???

My god, you're a cretin.

Bosh "played his face off"?? really?? Last I checked, Bosh was paid the same as LeBron and MORE than Wade and he was as useless for most of the crucial final moments on DEFENSE as well as passing up shots in that crucial 4th Q of the final game. They ALL screwed up and they are ALL responsible.

Fire this moron and get somepne capable of writing about basketball, not highschool gossip.
