Governor Kasich: Mavericks are 'Honorary Ohioans'

John Kasich, Governor of Ohio, declared the Dallas Mavericks "Honorary Ohioans" after their 2011 NBA title. Posted by Ben Golliver. john-kasich

Revenge for "The Decision" now bears an executive seal.

John Kasich, Governor of the state of Ohio, took the unusual step of honoring a team with no geographical ties to his jurisdiction. On Monday, one day after the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals, Kasich's office released a press release noting that the governor had issued a resolution that declared that the Mavericks, their friends, family and fans are now officially "Honorary Ohioans."

Why would he do this? Retribution, of course.

The Heat were led by Ohio native former Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James, who opted to take his talents to South Beach last summer rather than return to play for the Cavaliers. In return, fans in Ohio booed him mercilessly during his two return visits to Cleveland and openly rooted for the Heat to get bounced from the playoffs.

The resolution specifically praises Dallas' "loyalty, integrity and teamwork" and specifically praises Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki for choosing to re-sign with the Mavericks last summer. Kasich's resolution bears the official seal of Ohio, bestows upon the Mavericks "all privileges and honors" that goes with the title "Honorary Ohioans" and is signed at the bottom.

You know who definitely finds this hilarious and awesome? Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who issued his own decree on Sunday night.

Below is a small version of the official resolution. Click here to read the whole thing.

Another Title: Mavericks 'Honorary Ohioans'

LOL!! Classy move!!  I'm sure lots of people think this is petty, however recognizing and welcoming the Dallas Mavericks as Honorary Ohioans, I think, is just another effort to demonstrate how perturbed Cleveland and the whole State of Ohio were at the way LBJ left the city and its fans, high and dry!  Ironically, the Cavs have both the 1st overall pick as well as the fourth pick in this year's NBA draft!  What are the odds of Cleveland winning a Championship in the next 2 - 3 years?? If Dallas can win it, I'd say odds are pretty good Cleveland can have a duplicate feat! What would really be demoralizing is if it's against the Heat!!!

Maybe it will, maybe it won't but things sure are looking up in Cleveland! LBJ SUXS!!  LOL!!

Governor Kasich: Mavericks are 'Honorary Ohioans'

Interesting reading the many posts here blasting the gov for getting invloved in something this petty when his state is falling apart but yet when Big Ears in the white house spends his time honoring every winning team down to his kids BB team, plays golf every weekend, plays hoops many times while the whole country is drowning---not much noise.  Must be all the OBAMA stash keeping everybody happy.  Good move mr. gov. next you should go raise taxes on the "Kings" estate in Akron.

LeBron headed South, his Mom is riding West.

Moe, this is a stupid story, seriously. However, in New York State, our public officials get caught with Client #9, have affairs in the Gracie mansion, and send out half-naked photos of themselves to train-wreck broads. It doesn't make this story any less horrible, but cheer up Cleveland, you still got the Browns.

Governor Kasich: Mavericks are 'Honorary Ohioans'

I was born in Cleveland. I am a college student in Akron. I do not like LeBron. I despise him for how he tried to set up all these East teams so he could get his "easy" path to the finals but this clown wants to blame the poor economy on public officials and takes his time to throw out this publicity stunt?????? Im getting sick of this state getting caught up in all this garbage. Got it. We hate Lebron. TIME TO MOVE ON.

Cleveland and Ohio, I understand your pain and anger about Lebron and the way he left and I sympathize, but this is kinda dumb. No, wait......this is REALLY dumb.

Gov. Jaawhn should go back to busting public employee unions and blaming schoolteachers for the woes of his protein-deficient four-letter state.

Shouldn't this guy be more worried about his state's economic issues instead?

Governor Kasich: Mavericks are 'Honorary Ohioans'

Wow. An "official" slap in the face.
Let me get back not to my pathetic life now LeBron, u know, like u asked us all to do yesterday in our press conference. Please don't trip over your crystal slipper and smash a bottle of cristal, while trying to balance yourself, like one of you patented 4th quarter turnovers in the championship round.
