Isiah Thomas talks about his future with Knicks

There is an assumption that Isiah Thomas will be returning to the Knicks in some regard, after Donnie Walsh didn't reach a contract extension with the team. Thomas remains involved in some manner with the team as a consultant-but-not-a-consultant type of thing.

He's already said he won't rejoin the team
in an official capacity, but via Sports Radio Interviews, Thomas was asked about his future with the team since again, most seem to doubt he will rejoin the club in an official capacity.
Do you want to be back with the New York Knicks organzation?

“I don’t want to be the President of the New York Knicks. That’s not what I’m angling for. In terms of being in the NBA or working in an NBA organization I’ve said this before at some point in time I would like to return to the NBA and I would like to continue in the NBA, but at this time my focus is at FIU [Florida International University] and working in college and working with the kids that I’m working with.”

Why do you not want to be the President of the New York Knicks or for any team?

“I … not necessarily any team, but I would just say in this situation right now you know what with what went on with myself and my family and the toll that it took on just my family here in New York. It was just difficult for us and we had a very difficult time. I don’t know if I would want to go through that again.”

Let me just make this clear for the listeners out there. Are you trying to say that if your friend, the billionaire, Mr. Dolan, picked up the phone, called you and said ‘I want you back in the same position you had before you’d likely say no?’

“I probably would because I think I could help him … I would try to help him in other ways. I just don’t know if my skin … I don’t know if my family and myself …  I don’t (know) if we could all go through that again. It was very difficult for all of us during that period of time and I wouldn’t want to go through that again.”

What about being the coach of the Knicks?

“Absolutely not.”
As with anything in sports, you can only take Thomas at his word. He says he's not returning to the Knicks and because of the PR nightmare it would create, you've got to believe it. Isiah Thomas isn't going to be the Knicks next GM.

He's said before that he wants to return to the NBA at some point, but he's not dumb. He understands that a return to the Knicks wouldn't be good for him or the organization. Not with all the baggage that's there. But he does have a major leg up there because of his relationship with Dolan. Even with that, Thomas acknowledged how difficult a return would be. He doesn't rule out the chance to return in some capacity, but he's sure he doesn't want to be president and especially not the coach.

Sleep easy, Mike D'Antoni. And Knicks fans.

Here's a better idea: Dolan, sell the team.  Otherwise, franchise is doomed for two decades more, not just one.

Isiah Thomas talks about his future with Knicks

I've been a Knick fan my whole life and you all know how painful that must've been but if this guy gets even a janitorial positoin w/ the NYK, I'm gone.  I admire Kevin Durant so I may just have to go w/ him.

Isiah Thomas talks about his future with Knicks

As i had the said the other day, why would the Knicks want him? He ruined the Raptors in his tenure in Toronto, and he screwed over the Knicks in New York...has he ever accomplished anything of significance while being in an office role? I don't think so...... and last time he was employed by The Knicks they had to pay out ten million dollars because he was going around groping female employess...lol... So if your time in New York was difficult, you made it that way with your boneheaded moves and childish behaviour, it's not New York's fault.......

Here's an idea. Since Dolan appreciates the advice he receives from Isiah Thomas, make him, yes, President of Basketball Operations primarily for advising Dolan. Hire a General Manager who would be responsible for all of the administrative duties of basketball operations including hiring and firing of the coach. This would take Isiah out of the limelight, protect his family and, yet, be available to Dolan for critical advice. That's my take.

Major league baseball is going through a couple situations with incompetent ownership.  They've taken control of the Dodgers and were close to doing something with the Mets.  Why hasn't the NBA taken over the Knicks.  I'm a west coaster, but feel greatly for Knick fans.  Their owner is an absolute idiot!!!

It's good that Isiah is making this clear.  There's no need to demonstrate your incompetence twice.  It's unbelievable that the Knicks' owner would even be entertaining the idea of bringing him back in any capacity.  Not only was he evidently horrible at his job, he sexually harassed employees in the process.  Isiah - a recipe for success.

Isiah Thomas does not deserve this chance. Isiah has enough of his own baggage to take care of.Does anyone think he is doing any good coaching at the college level?

Isaih please go away.  Seriously are you stupid?  No one other than the team you currently coach, maybe, wants you.  Your soft spoken confused sounding voice give me the creeps and makes me want to shower.
