LeBron James apologizes for the way "The Decision" went down.

Posted by Matt Moore

In his post-game comments following the Heat's 97-87 win over the Celtics to win their series 4-1, LeBron James apologized for the way "The Decision" want down.  James told reporters that he was sorry for how the one-hour special occurred, but felt that teaming up with Bosh and Wade in Miami was necessary to get past the Celtics. As CBSSports.com's Ken Berger reports, James told reporters:
"I knew I had to go through Boston at some point. I went through a lot signing to be here and the way it panned out. I apologize for the way it happened, but I knew that this opportunity was once in a lifetime."
James will continue to receive condemnation over the event, for his attitude, approach, and behavior. But after the game, he spoke candidly to TNT's Craig Sager about how much of a demon the Celtics represented to him:
"First of all thanks to the Boston Celtics, coach Rivers, that coaching staff, those player, they make you fight for everything. You can never take a second off. "
James was tortured by the Celtics, who swooped in after his 2007 Finals run and took over the Eastern Conference. Their own version of the Big 3 raised the bar for rosters, leaving James frustrated with how his Cavaliers team compared. Right or wrong, James felt compelled to raise the talent around to him to a higher level. He did so, and on Tuesday night, that decision, "The Decision" proved to be the right one for his career agenda.

How he did it was wrong. It was always wrong, and somewhere inside him, James knew that, despite refusing to apologize for it in Cleveland earlier this year. It may seem easy to apologize now that he's made the Conference Finals and gotten past the Celtics, but for someone who has made so many P.R. gaffes over the last year, it's a step in the right direction, this humilty. This is the LeBron James Reclamation Project now. It started with beating the Celitcs in Miami.  It will only truly end with a championship ring.

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

It was nice of Dwyane Wade's sidekick to apologize for "The Decision" after making the conference finals.  I bet Cleveland fans would have preferred an apology from Dwyane Wade's sidekick for the way he QUIT the last 2 playoff games against the Celtics last year.  That would have been more meaningful.  He wanted better players around him? What, he had no say in the moves the Cleveland front office made at all? All they needed was for Dwyane Wade's sidekick to play last year against the Celtics, instead of quitting and embarrassing himself and his "legacy".  That was the real thing that Dwyane Wade's sidekick needed to apologize for.

Dallas is hands down the best team left in the playoffs? You have got to be kidding me.  Dallas looked great against a Lakers team that struggled to play at a high level all season.  Wait until the young athletic OKC team comes to town and then tell me how good Dallas is.

I think most Cavaliers fans would have been upset had he chosen to leave the normal way a free agent leaves, just like they were in Orlando when they lost Shaq. But they would have moved on in short order. It was his right to leave. No one denied that. It was how he did it, stringing everyone along (not just Cleveland) when he knew all along where he was going. He knew it in 2008. Then holding that farce of a TV episode. Just man up and say you knew where you were going. I still think it diminishes anything he does from here on out, because he quit and gave up on being a leader, and instead chose to ride another's coattails. As far as them beating the Celtics, I think the day the Celtics traded Kendrick Perkins was the day the Celtics ran up the white flag on the season. If Miami gets by Chicago, there is no way they will beat Dallas in a 7 game series. Right now Dallas is hands down the best team left in the playoffs.

"The Decision" was so "retarded".  The network who televised that 1 hour waste of time should be investigated by the FCC for stupidity.  Would have rather watched "The View".

Aahhh, but you did watch eh?

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

There was nothing to apologize for. It's not like he is some Thug on the Lakers. His contract expired and he made the best choice for himself, just like every other player in history. Get over it already Cleveland. If you had surrounded him with better talent, he'd still be a Cavalier. Heat roll to the Title this year, be happy for him, forgive and forget. Jazz in 2012 - Aloha
