LeBron James apologizes for the way "The Decision" went down.

Posted by Matt Moore

In his post-game comments following the Heat's 97-87 win over the Celtics to win their series 4-1, LeBron James apologized for the way "The Decision" want down.  James told reporters that he was sorry for how the one-hour special occurred, but felt that teaming up with Bosh and Wade in Miami was necessary to get past the Celtics. As CBSSports.com's Ken Berger reports, James told reporters:
"I knew I had to go through Boston at some point. I went through a lot signing to be here and the way it panned out. I apologize for the way it happened, but I knew that this opportunity was once in a lifetime."
James will continue to receive condemnation over the event, for his attitude, approach, and behavior. But after the game, he spoke candidly to TNT's Craig Sager about how much of a demon the Celtics represented to him:
"First of all thanks to the Boston Celtics, coach Rivers, that coaching staff, those player, they make you fight for everything. You can never take a second off. "
James was tortured by the Celtics, who swooped in after his 2007 Finals run and took over the Eastern Conference. Their own version of the Big 3 raised the bar for rosters, leaving James frustrated with how his Cavaliers team compared. Right or wrong, James felt compelled to raise the talent around to him to a higher level. He did so, and on Tuesday night, that decision, "The Decision" proved to be the right one for his career agenda.

How he did it was wrong. It was always wrong, and somewhere inside him, James knew that, despite refusing to apologize for it in Cleveland earlier this year. It may seem easy to apologize now that he's made the Conference Finals and gotten past the Celtics, but for someone who has made so many P.R. gaffes over the last year, it's a step in the right direction, this humilty. This is the LeBron James Reclamation Project now. It started with beating the Celitcs in Miami.  It will only truly end with a championship ring.

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

There was nothing wrong with the decision.  And I'm sick of whiny azz pansies crying over it.  My god, get over it.

So he took an hour special to let everyone know he was going to Miami.  According to Lebron he made the decision that morning.  Who am I to say he is a liar?  Maybe, just maybe; he isn't.  Sure, he may have been leaning toward Miami the entire time; esp after they signed Wade and Bosh...but that would have been obvious to any business person or athlete or fan.  I mean who gives up that opportunity.  BUT, I truly believe that Lebron did love Cleveland and he'd rather have a trophy there then in Miami.  Yet, at the same time, I think he realized it isn't possible.  And in the morning; took the path that can bring him to greatest instead of the one that will only bring him to defeat over and over and over again...no matter the numbers he puts up.

Fact is simple:  Fans of Cleveland didn't want him going anywhere else.  Cause they knew their ability for a championship and their city's survival depended on him.  It didn't matter how he said it...it would have hurt. And having Cavs finish last in league and Lebron in NBA Eastern Finals,  can't sit too well either.  But HELLO...this is basketball and it is a business and it propers in better markets or markets where the OWNER can properly surround a star with true talent.  So who truly failed Cavs?  It was Gilbert, not Lebron.  It is just easier to hate on the guy that went to better things.

Lebron was in a unique situation.  He was the most coveted player in the NBA.  Everyone wanted to know where he was going; including myself.  So he set up a ESPN interview; donated money to charity; and told the world:  once and only once.  Didn't have to call each team and say yah or nah....  Just said it on television.  You all act like the entire thing was his idea.  Nah, the media ate this up like candy on halloween...and the same media is loving the fact they can attack Lebron for it.  The media is blaming Lebron for the "decision" they set up...isn't that ironic.  And "fans" can't seem to figure that out.  Are they really that dumb?

You want to complain about what is wrong or what deserves an apology:

How about Gilbert and his ridiculous lies and insults.

How about the media taking responsibilities for their roles.

How about apologies to Lebron haters for basically ignoring him in MVP discussions when he was the BEST candidate.  Rose...are you freakin kidding me.  Worst numbers of the best players...and he got MVP.  Talk about an award that means nothing now.  Man I thought it was bad when Kobe got it over CP3....but Rose over Wade/Lebron/Dirk/Durant....  Unreal how bad of a decision that was.

How about all those folks that love to hate on Lebron as if he is the only one that ever made a decision the world didn't like...all hypocrites.  Judge yourself before others.

So let's get over what you didn't like about what Lebron did.  It was Lebron's decision to make and his alone.  And he has every right to make it however he wants to.  Period.  Just "get over it".

Cope...Bulls got Boozer and Korver in free agency. Obviously Rose and Noah were 'gets' through the draft but let's not act like they didn't benefit from free agency. They clearly did. Not only that but the Bulls went after LeBron James AND Dywane Wade this offseason as well.

And for anyone that is saying that LeBron isn't better than Wade...well...LeBron is better than Wade. It is a 1A and 1B argument though. They both are on a plane in basketball very few players will ever reach.

Last thing. Most of the all time greats I know of had a primary #2 and usually a good 3 and 4 option at the very least. Jordan certainly did. Magic. Bird, Russell...LeBron teaming with Wade made sense. All that is happening in the game now is we're seeing that elite players are getting together in elite cities. It most certainly does NOT make their path to a championship easier! What it will do is eliminate any parity in the league; you're gonna have about 8-10 teams that are good to great and about 20-22 teams that are close to God-awful with a player like Danny Granger or Andre Iguodala as your #1 option.

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

No... what happened was Rondo stole the ball, then Wade held him up when he was trying to get around him. Then you could clearly see Wade try to leg sweep Rondo. It was an extremely dirty play. And don't say it wouldn't have been an issue if Wade was hurt; Rondo would have gotten called for a flagrant and been ejected. Wade and LeBron get WAY more calls than anyone else in the NBA, and it's infuriating.

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

Lebron needed the decision.  He needed to leave Cleveland.  He needed to join forces with other superstars. He is right in the role he should be in: the villian.  He is Darth Vader and he needs to start embracing that role.   He needs to say "I did it, its over, now get over it." If Heat are going to win a championship, they are going to need the "Us against the World" mentality.  They lack the inside presence and overall toughness of a championship team.   If they play with a chip on their shoulder throughout the rest of the playoffs, they are going to be very difficult to beat.  It almost seems like by beating boston, they lost some of their edge.   Like, "thank god, we beat boston we are good now."  If they are thinking the rest is going to be a cakewalk, they are going to be in for a rude awakening.

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

Quit your bitching....Rondo stole the ball, then grabbed Wade's wrist so he couldn't get to it.  Wade in-turn grabbed Rondo's waist, and they both fell to the floor with Rondo dislocating his elbow as he tried to brace his fall.  NBA is a physical game where constant and blatant fouling, and even traveling, is allowed.  It is not even true basketball anymore.  You're mad cause he got hurt and you're just like everbody else, wanting to play the blame game.  It wouldn't even be an issue with you if Wade had been hurt, and he wasn't even the initial one grabbing and holding.  Grow up!

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

He needed to go to Miami to get past Boston, thats just an excuse.  Boston is getting older and have been getting worse each year.  They definetely not as good as they were when they first came together.  Its funny that the best team in the league this year wasn't even the Heat it was the Bulls, a team that just drafted well the past few years and put together a team with a lot of young talent definetely not a big 3 type of team.  There are alot of better ways to make a good team then just paying to bring 3 of the biggest players to one team.  That is just not fair to teams like the thunder, memphis, pacers, or portland who all play in much smaller markets.  Chicago plays in a large market and could go out and get huge players, I bet alot of players would love to play for the team Jordan played for but they actually went a made a team the old fashion way.  Scouting good young talent an putting a team together that plays really good together.  I hope the Bulls end up winning the championship this year.
I just think the way Lebron made his desicion a 1 hour event on TV was kind of a slap in the face to the cavs.  He should have just announced it like every other player has.

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

He is just mean by apologizing now for what he did. lol, this is like sending a letter to your ex-lover after breaking there heart a year later to apologize for the way u ended it. They see u are doing better and happy with the new person. Dont rub it in by apoligizing for them not being good enough, that just mean. lol. "Dear Cleveland im sorry u werent good enough for me but ya see i knew what i was doing! I have made it over the hump and am almost at my ultimate goal. I hope u get better and arent losers forever. I will always have love for u but not in that way. sorry." sincerely LJ...

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

Apology?  How about an apology for being the new driving force behind turning the NBA into an even worse example of human garbage?  Too bad Shaq wasn't available to do to you what Wade did to Rondo.  It's easy to win when you dislocate the elbow of key players on the other team.  That stuff works both ways you know and your new friends just set the bar even lower than it was before.  Someone will give Wade and possibly you a dose of the medicine he dished out.  That was as bad as any dirty trick I've ever seen.  I guess you fit right in with the players there in Miami.  You're all scumbuckets.

LeBron James apologizes for "The Decision"

I completely agree with you its so hard to watch Lebron win in miami but i am pulling for him.  There is no other NBA player that i watched play 20 games of high school baskeball live, i have watched him since he was a freshman and will continue to do so.  I was upset they way he left but slowly getting over it and him finally apologizing a little carries some weight with me.  That being said i will shed no tears if miami doesnt win the Championship but i do and will always love watching lebron play.
