Pachulia and Richardson ejected for fighting

We were building to this point. At some point, the Magic and Hawks were going to rumble.

Finally it happened in Game 3 with 2:22 left in the fourth quarter. Zaza Pachulia fouled Dwight Howard hard, Howard flung his arms, Jason Richardson came to defend Howard after Pachulia took exception to Howard and off we went. Pachulia was right in Richardson's face apparently yelling "What? What?" and with the motion of his head seemed to headbutt Richardson. Immediately, Richardson threw and open-handed push to the face at Pachulia.

After the officials reviewed the play, both Pachulia and Richardson were ejected with "fighting" fouls. Howard was assessed a technical because of hanging his elbow out.

Obviously the NBA will review this incident and it's likely both Pachulia and Richardson will be hit with suspensions. Will the NBA punish Howard for the elbow? Remember that he was suspended a game in the postseason in 2009 for one, which was widely criticized.

Pachulia defended Howard extremely well in the post all game long, holding the MVP candidate to just 21 points. Howard averaged 39.5 the first two games. Pachulia is notorious for getting under player's skin and he certainly has with Howard. The follow-through from Howard was pretty clearly intentional and it set Pachulia off. Howard takes a beating every night and at times, does a poor job of containing his frustration. It set off this chain of events which will likely put Richardson and Pachulia on the bench for a big Game 4.

Atlanta went on to win 88-84 after a huge Jamal Crawford 3 to take a 2-1 series lead.

Seriously though, this guy is good on D, but don't act like you are the best in the league when you can't even sink a 7ft jump shot.
Does that apply to Howard, too?

The foul was hard but nothing near flagrant, then Howard goes after him with his elbow. Head butt by Zaza then a push to the face by Richardson so yes they have earned suspensions (JR and Zaza). The Magic can not afford to have Richardson gone.

I was expecting to see flagrant fouls like the ones on D Rose by Indy but these were barely love taps. Howard needs to grow up and take the heat. Those who have stated that at this stage of his career Howard is no where near where Shaq was in his prime are correct. Howard is a huge whiner.

Dwight Howard is a thug, whose basketball skills do not equal his physical skills.  He is always throwing elbows and being a b*otch.  He had the most T's in the regular season.  Orlando's going out early and people are going to realize he's just not that great of a "basketball player".

Its not like Zaza does much of anything else.

Well, to be fair to Zaza, he does do a lot of flopping.  You can't leave that out when assessing his talents.

i don't know why the players let their emotions in...yes, this is the playoffs but being ejected/suspended only hurts the team...in this case, if both are suspended, game 4 is up for grabs...orlando needs jRich shooting and atl needs Zaza as the 5....dumb move on both teams

This is all due to Artest's brawl.  Back in the day, this "fight" wouldn't even be talked about, never mind suspensions being issued.

Fouling is a strategy in games.  How many times do you see someone get bearhugged when the inbounds pass comes in?  Jason Richardson should've let Dwight Howard walk to the free throw line and then gone on with the game.  If a player fouls to hard there are rules for flagrant fouls.  If it's not a flagrant just keep playing and listen to the refs when they call fouls or blow the whistle.

well the otherside of that arguement is that by allowing players called "enforcers" to have free reign and committ hard fouls that are borderline flagrant.  It's one thing to play tough D or hack-a-shaq/howard.  But its another thing to have a guy in there to committ hard fouls.  Its not like Zaza does much of anything else.

Pachulia: "What? I'm a back up center! What? I just got back handed by Superman! What? I can't make 7 ft. shots! What? I'm getting suspended for a headbutt! What? What?"
Seriously though, this guy is good on D, but don't act like you are the best in the league when you can't even sink a 7ft jump shot. I mean who headbutts anymore?
