Miami Heat forward LeBron James threw the basketball at Boston Celtics center Jermaine O'Neal after a flagrant foul. Posted by Ben Golliver.
On Sunday, the Miami Heat hosted the Boston Celtics in a must-win game with playoff implications. For once, they didn't completely wilt from the moment.
With 4:19 left before the end of an intense first half, LeBron James took off with the ball in transition with his Heat leading, 39-32. As James looked to attack the basket from the left, Celtics center Jermaine O'Neal committed a pretty thuggish foul, body-checking the All-Star forward without making any sort of a basketball play. James kept his balance and, realizing that O'Neal was trying to send a message, decided to send a message of his own by throwing the basketball at O'Neal's back.
The ball toss led to a little skirmish between the two teams, with plenty of jawing to go around. Once things settled down, O'Neal was assessed a Flagrant Foul 1 for his body-check, James was given a technical foul for his ball toss and Heat guard Dwyane Wade and Celtics forward Paul Pierce were each issued technical fouls for jawing.

You should watch this... it's a replay of what happened..even in slow motion. Flagrant is flagrant, O'Neal knew he would not be able to do anything there... No where near enough time to set up for anything. Pure idiocy on Jermain O'Neals behalf. As far as what Lebron did... It was wrong but, you do have to stand up and not be bullied in the league. What successful player in the NBA hasn't done something along these lines? Stop calling the man a baby for being body blocked and throwing a ball at the man responsible. Would you not react to something of the sort? I'm sure you would. I'm sure you have stood up for yourself once or twice before. |

LeBron James throws ball at Jermaine O'Neal videoWhy all the hate for Lebron on this one? J.O. made no attempt to block the shot or even go for the ball. He threw his shoulder into Lebron after Lebron had made an attempt to go to the basket. If O'Neal had done that to a smaller player he would have gotten a flagrant and been thrown out. Lebron's reaction was warranted but so was the technical.
I love how Paul Pierce runs over there and pushes D-Wade out of the way and acts like he is big and bad too. The Celtics are a bunch of b***** and their time has come to an end. |

LeBron James throws ball at Jermaine O'Neal videoOk leave your bias out of this for a minute. Not a huge fan of either side but O'Neal went bush league for a minute. Whatever, it happens. LeBron did what most would do in a heated contest between rivals and reacted. Was it a good reaction? Maybe, maybe not. But it happens all the time and its part of the game. Players jawed like you expect. I really have no problem with everything that happened after the initial foul. You can't say you've never reacted like that in a pick up game. And for once the officials actually got everything right. Nothing major here. Let's move on to the next story.
