Perkins calls Pau 'soft', Phil Jackson 'arrogant'

Most everyone said it when the Thunder acquired Kendrick Perkins. He’s going to bring something different to town. He’s tough, he’s big, he’s physical and he’s not shy about speaking his mind. If Chris Bosh is a fake tough guy, Perkins is every bit of real tough guy as you can get. And in a locker room that’s mostly tight-lipped with every cliche down pat and ready to use in any situation, Perkins has a candidness that we haven’t really ever seen here.

In the newest issue of ESPN the Mag , Perkins and Kevin Durant were both asked a couple of the same questions with both having mostly differing opinions. All of it was pretty interesting, but the question, “Lakers: Team to beat or old news?” brought out the best in Perk.

“Yesterday’s news,” he said. “I don’t like Pau Gasol or Phil Jackson. Phil is arrogant. Pau is soft. Kobe tries to bring out his toughness, but he’s still soft.”

Well then.

Durant’s answer? “They’re the reigning champs and still playing like it.” See the difference there? Like I said, Perk might take a little getting used to in OKC. I actually wondered to myself if these quotes were even real or if I was missing the point of some kind of fictional, made up quote piece.

Most felt when OKC got Perkins though that he was going to bring more than just defense and rebounding to the young Thunder. He was going to add toughness. Grit. And a new attitude. One of his biggest assets is the way he defends and muscles against a team like the Lakers and obviously, he's not intimidated by the defending champs a bit.

I'm sure a lot of those feelings come from the fact Perkins was formerly of the Celtics who, you know, don't like the Lakers a whole lot. Perkins has had his fill of Gasol and Jackson the past couple years, meeting the Lakers in the Finals twice in the past three seasons.

The Thunder's still waiting on Perkins' first appearance which could come as early as tonight versus the Wizards. There's some thought he might play a little before really settling into his starter's role Wednesday against the Heat. Either way, we'll be seeing Perkins in a Thunder jersey by the end of the week and it won't just be about the attitude he's bringing, but about what he adds on the floor too.

Big Daddy Pump is a Typical Laker No-Brain Hater!

Big Daddy Dump...?! 'Gasol a whiner and Phil is no better than Sloan and Euro's suck and Kobe..."  Ladies and Gentlemen in the center ring is another Laker Hater that is obviously disturbed that he will witness another 3-Peat from the Phil Jackson/ Kobe Bryant Era!! Wow dude, you would rather have Jerry Sloan coach your fav Clippers team than Phil Jackson?! You should put that poll question on Sports Nation- Im sure the Sports Nation would much rather have No Championship Jerry Sloan coaching their fav BB team than 10 Championship Ring Phil Jackson! Wow Einstein! Oh and by the way... Only a Great coach can coach superstars like MJ and Kobe and maintain unity and a performance level to bring Chicago and LA those championships! Obviously you have never coached a city league men's softball, football or basketball league and won numerous city championships as a coach and kept the peace with your ever new and old demanding roster players... Thats what i thought- Laker Arm Chair Hater!

Gasol is a big whiner, just like every other European player that comes to the NBA. Look at Nowitzki, same thing. After he drives to the basket and misses, he spends more time glaring at the nearest referee instead of getting back on defense. Nowitzki is not tough either. Hard to bang around with others when stand behind the arc all game long. How about Phil Jackson taking over a team like the Cavaliers or the T-Wolves and see how he does. He positioned himself just right, both in Chicago and L.A. He took over after Doug Collins built the team up. Collins was fired because of Jordan. Phil Jackson spoiled MJ and kept feeding his ego. If he would have criticized MJ, Jackson would have been fired also. Jackson inherited a good Lakers and inherited Jeanie Buss along with it. I would take a Jerry Sloan over a Phil Jackson anyday. Sloan did it consistently with different players in Utah. And you never heard Sloan comment about other players and coaches like Phil Jackson has. For that matter, either has Kobe.

Good for Perk to call it the way he sees it. Phil Jackson is a truly arrogant son-of-a-gun. And for Gasol, what else can you say about softness. He crumbles every time someone touches him. Go Thunder!!!

Thank you K.P.!!!

As a Laker fan, I love it when players take shots at the Purple and Gold.  In this case, OKC is going to have to win a tough first round series against Denver or Portland and then beat the Spurs without home court advantage just to get a chance to play the "soft" Lakers.  And, if they do make it that far, they will have helped the Lakers out by giving L.A. home court advantage in the Western Conference finals.  At that point, Kobe, Phil, Pau, Lamar, Fish, Big-Drew, Ron-Ron, and the killer B's will prepare for OKC by re-acquanting themselves with Perkins' smack.  And, well, good luck with that...

I am from OKC, and I love the Thunder, but I am still very optimistic about the Perkins trade that we made. Yeah we have never had a major force down low, and its completely obvious that is what has been lacking from making us a serious continder in the league, but I don't think Perkins was the right fit with all the guys that we traded for. He does bring another big body for us to move around, and he will be physical with LA and the Spurs. He is still very young for being a "league Vet" already, and I'm glad that we brought him in because he will mesh well with the rest of the team for how young he is. But the simplge fact is that the guy has a rep of getting hurt and he only averages 6.4 points a game and 6.1 rebounds per game for his career. With all the guys we delt out, we could have easily gone out and snagged Marc Gasol or Zach Randolph or a big man that will be able to keep up with our transition offense. Because will Perkins Kness bothering him I don't know if he will be able to keep up during the fast transition game. And as far as the trash talk goes, I don't mind it because KD called out Bosh earlier this year and he has backed it up with his leauge leading 28 points per game. I can only hope Perkins backs up his trash talk and starts to bump up his point and rebound total.

Perkins calls Pau 'soft', Phil Jackson 'arrogant'

Does anyone really value his opinions or assessments of some middle of the road, wanna-be tough guy? Kendrick Perkins career averages are: 6.4 ppg and 6.1 rpg! If winning the past two NBA Championships and being on pace to three-peat is soft and arrogant, i think we would all happily except those "flaws"! Accomplish something on their level and then talk smack! I love how these average players like to run off at the mouth to get attention they can't garner with their play! I am sure neither Pau Gasol nor Phil Jackson  care at all what what his opinion is of them.
