Pau Gasol says his first option would be familiar FC Barcelona.

There's a flood of confirmations coming from players that in the event of a lockout (which is a near-certainty at this point) that they'll be playing overseas, but none have singled out a team. Pau Gasol's the first in that event and it's no shocker. Gasol told Spanish radio that were he to head overseas, he'd be looking to go somewhere familiar.
"It's an option, no doubt... If it happens, you're going to play to another place, and if I have to play in Europe my first option would be Barcelona, of course," Gasol said.

Gasol's referring to FC Barcelona, which he played for when he was a youngster from 1999-2001. His brother Marc played there, as well as his close friend Juan Carlos Navarro, who still plays there, and his Spanish national teammate Ricky Rubio. He's familiar with all the players, is a god among men in Spain, a national hero, and would get to play with close friends. So it's pretty much like LeBron going to Miami in a lot of ways. This is pretty much a no-brainer, and something he might even genuinely enjoy. Marc Gasol's also expressed interest in going overseas, and you'd have to think he'd also look to join Barcelona.  The result would be a seismic shift in Europe as Barcelona would be as strong as it's ever been, essentially having the national team in place. They'd also be one of the most fun teams to watch online when you're desperate for basketball next year.

Hey Rockety.. News flash if gasol goes over seas that means theres a damn strike in the NBA, wonder if youll say the same when KOBE goes overseas with him, and not on the same team, remember Kobe said in the preseason he would go to europe and play since he speaks like 4 languages and grew up over there.

Good.  Go.  And while you're there, find some soap and a razor.  As much as I dislike the Steinbrenners, I have always respected their demand to their players to "represent your team and your city."  Gasol looks like he comes to games stinking on purpose so no one will want to cover "the sausage in the middle."  Gross.  Go to Europe and play, stinky.  No one here cares.  Eurpoean leagues are where NBA players go to get richer and disappear.  We're fine with that.

Hey Llama boy, I am happy to hear what Spanish team you want to go play for when the NBA lockouts.  Do everyone in America a favor and don't come back.  It would be crazy if a flock of NBA players went overseas to play basketball, well besides the ones who came from there already.  The US would have to come up with a new league like the XFL has for football.  Side note, Celtics will destory the Lakers if they make the finals with this new team.  Jeff Green looks great and the chemistry is only getting better.  Although the Spurs I think will make it into the finals because of the local New Hampshire boy: Matt Bonner!

Opposed to all the other sports where the athletes are so in tune with the working man.

I was going to make a smarta## comment, but really, who cares?  The NBA is a farce, officiating is ludicrous, and the players don't know anything about the common working man. Bring on the lockout so we can all watch more reruns of Charlie Sheen being himself.
