Rasual Butler to sign with Bulls off waivers

Butler intends to sign with Bulls off waivers.

Well, the Bulls finally got their two-guard. After seeking an upgrade at shooting guard for months including through the trade deadline, but being unwilling to dramatically shift the roster, the Bulls will be getting the services of Rasual Butler once he clears waivers, according to

It's an interesting choice for the Bulls, as Butler's not a true shooting guard, doesn't shoot that well, isn't that great of a scorer, and turns 32 in the playoffs. He shot 39 percent from 3-point in his last year with the Hornets two years ago, and since then his shot has completely vanished. But, Butler's long enough and could provide enough with Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer to give coach Tom Thibodeau enough optiions to survive at that spot in the playoffs. It's not a long-term solution, but buyout candidates never are.

Butler's biggest addition may be in providing backup support for Luol Deng without losing requisite length. Meanwhile, Keith Bogans will continue to stun the universe by starting for the third team in the East while shooting 37 percent. This team is rather odd when you look at the whole.

Rasual Butler to sign with Bulls off waivers

Does that say the Bulls need a shooting guard; and found a guard that can't shoot?  It may also be bad karma to take a guy off of waivers from the Clippers.  Kind of like going to garage sales in the slums.  On the bright side of things I just read something about him on another site that says he had the best year of his career last year.  Hopefully he works out so they have a better chance of knocking Miami out if they come across the boys from south beach.

Way to go Saulie B!! Glad to see Butler out of LA and with a contender. Rasual can play the 2, does shoot well, and can defend. It blows my mind when guys like this Matt Moore right this stuff about players and you know they didn't do their homework. Butler will get you 12 points a game and be a knock down three point shooter with the open looks he will recieve because of D Rose. The Bulls can know spread you out big time by having Korver and Butler on the court at the same time for spurts. This isn't like the Lakers stealing Pau Gasol off of the Grizzlies big but it definetly will help the surging Bulls compete for the east.

Rasual Butler to sign with Bulls off waivers

This sort of reminds me of when the Bulls acquired Rory Sparrow 23 years ago, a minor, serviceable player who won't help a lot but won't hurt a lot either.  Wow, am I that old?

Nothing you say is valid. Why? Because you're a Cubs fan. 'Nuff said.

Bulls have surprised everyone except me. I knew what Thibs is capable of, and I knew that Rose, combined with a stable of big men is capable of. The Bulls have penetration off the dribble, they've got outside shooting, they have chemistry, depth, and most importantly, they've got rebounders and defense.

I consider this acquisition a moot point. Butler gives them a better option than James Johnson. That is all. The Bulls will be seeing (and beating) your Knicks in the playoffs. Later, punk.

Wow halfdolla,

Rose is what 20 or 21, and you, in your all seeing might, have already determined that Rose will never win an NBA title. Take a step off the ledge, the Bulls are taking steps in the right direction. Carmelo was not the right answer to the Bulls' issues and they probably wouldn't have won the title with Anthony. Are they a favorite to win the title this season? Could it happen? probably not, but it could. But the Bulls have a good (mostly young) core of players...they will contenders for years to come and will have plenty of opportunites to get a better shooting guard, which is obviously needed...give them time

Crap added to crap already = loss to Knicks in 1st round of playoffs.  The Bulls are going to get beat in the 1st round of the playoffs by the Knicks all because they could not pull the trigger and trade injury prone Noah to get Carmelo.  This is why the Bulls will not win a championship during Rose's tenure in Chicago.  There is no way the addition of crappy Butler to an already crappy list of shooting guards is going to help us beat anyone in the playoffs.  Noah WILL ALWAYS be a injury waiting to happen.  He will never play more then 50 games in a season for the rest of his career.  Rose will leave Chicago in 3 years and the Bulls will be back in the cellar crying with the Cavs.  We had a chance to finally relieve the glory years with the possible sigining of Carmelo through trade.  Can you imagine that front court?  Now we are doomed to hoping the Cubbies can put something together because Da Bears and The 'Hawks are crap too.

Yawn!!! Who cares? Wakje me up when the Bulls finally sign themselves a half way decent sg. This guy will not make one iota of difference for the Bulls. Same result we will be ousted in the conference finals.

Very good bench depth pickup, nothing more.  I am hoping the Bulls will not haunted by their decision to not go out and get a starting 2, but as other posters have said, this pickup does nothing to address that.

And for the 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000th time, Bogans is not going anywhere. He's the starting two on a team that is 24 games over .500. The Bulls ( 8 - 4 against the top teams in the league) are fine.
