Deron Williams traded to Nets for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and two first-round picks.
Posted by Matt Moore

Breaking news this morning as Ken Berger of CBSSports.com confirms a Bergen Record and Yahoo! Sports report that Deron Williams has been traded to the New Jersey Nets for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and two first round picks. It's a three way trade in which Troy Murphy is also being traded to the Golden State Warriors for Brendan Wright and Dan Gadzuric

It's a stunning development coming just days after Berger reported that Williams told associates last summer that he looked to play in New York with Amar'e Stoudemire. It's clear now Williams has been seeking a bigger market. He just got one. And the Nets now have their superstar. More coming shortly on this breaking story.

Trade Deadline: Deron Williams traded to Nets

They didn t give up near as much as they would have for Melo?

They gave up more!

1st of all - the Carmelo deal was only happening with an extension.  Williams right now does not have an extension. He is signed thru 2012

In the Carmelo deal, Billups was also coming to NJ (And a few other parts that were better/equal to Gadzuric and Wright)

So whats the difference?

2 Extra picks in exchange for the guarantee the superstar stays, and Billups at PG for 2 years.

If Williams signs an extension, it makes it a bit better, and if he is the ticket to the Nets signing another superstar A level, or 2 high B level players - then it was a great deal. But look at it now - who is Williams getting the ball too?  Travis Outlaw? Humphries? There are no finishers on this team.

If Williams is here thru 2012 then leaves after his contract - this may go down as one of the worst trades ever.

The two picks that were given up are definitely high first round.

From the Jazz perspective - this guy wasnt staying. His value was at its peak right now between today and the end of his contract.

On Feb 23, 2011 - The Jazz got the better deal. By far. There is no disuputing that.  And this is coming from a big Nets fan.

These  overpaid athletes have way too much power. First he caused Sloan to resign then demanded a trade and leaves. Why dont we just have lets say 10 or 12 teams with all superstars and let that be the NBA and everybody else expand to the D league for there league and pay.

It was fun to watch D-Will develop. He's a true star but in today's NBA no "star" wants to play in Salt Lake City. The Jazz arre a class organization and Salt Lake City is a beautiful city with incredibly loyal fans. Once Jerry Sloan retired and it was traced back to Deron Williams he became poison in Utah. Ty Corbin now has some young and hungry team players to work with and those drafts picks are precious. The Utah Jazz have a history of drafting smart. Deron Williams has Jerry Sloan to thank for his development into an All-Star. It looks like a fair trade. The East keeps getting stronger.

I like Deron Williams but hate giving up TWO first round picks on top of Devin Harris and Derrick Favors.  The Nets still are a player or two away from competing with the Knicks and Magic.  Probably even more than that away from competing with the Celtics or Heat.

Chapter 1 - argue with Hall of Fame coach; change plays called by Hall of Fame coach, get Hall of Fame coach forced out the door.

Chapter 2 - get yourself traded.

You sure you're looking at the same trade details that I am?  I mean I'm a Spurs fan and I hope the Jazz stink but if you don't think they got equal value then you're crazy.  My first glance at this was a big wow!!  Williams in exchange for a second tier but good pt guard, a rookie forward playing solid minutes and then two first round picks....for one guy!!??  That's a good deal for the Jazz, especially if he wasn't going to re-sign or demand a trade anyway.  Too bad he drove Sloan off before he left.

Well, this just sucks.  I guess I can watch the Jazz wallow in mediocrity for the nest 10 years.

Talk about not receiving equal value!

Like this better than Carmelo myself.  And they didn't give up near as much as was discussed for Melo either.
