UPDATE: It was announced following the game that Daniels has a bruised spinal cord and is out indefinitely. He's moving completely fine though, which is outstanding.

Early in the second quarter of the Celtics-Magic game, Boston guard Marquis Daniels went down on a seemingly harmless Gilbert Arenas foul. But after Daniels hit the floor, he remained motionless for more than five minutes, with a stretcher eventually coming out to take him off. Here's the play:

Via Ken Berger, Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss said Daniels suffered a neck injury and was being transported to New England Baptist Hospital for tests. He was conscious and talking on his way to the ambulance, Twiss said.

Obviously it looks like nothing happened, but evidently Daniels' neck was bent just right. Hopefully this is just a stinger of sorts and the trainers were just exercising a ton of caution.

Daniels was put in ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital. He did give a thumbs up to the crowd on his way off the court, which is a fantastic sign.

But what a weird moment and something you never see in basketball. It's an awful thing whenever it happens in sports where a player appears to have suffered a significant injury, but on something so minor as Arenas' foul, it's hard to imagine anything major. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

As soon as there's more info on Daniels, we'll pass that along.
